The players have never said they wont help, the only issue has been how do they help properly.
They have been painted in a very bad light by a tory rat trying to deflect blame and by horrid club owners whos only interest is their own bottom line.

Premier League players intend to make 'significant financial contributions', says PFA
PFA statement claims proposed 30 per cent wage cut could cost the Exchequer £200m and be detrimental to the NHSwww.skysports.com
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes Premier League footballers will want to contribute...
"I do believe that 99 per cent of footballers originate from the streets of Berwick, Bootle, Bolton, Solihull, Dudley - they're not from Hampstead and Knightsbridge - they've got good souls and are good people. They've just done well, they're just lucky enough to be in the one per cent of people who dream of being a footballer and make it.
"I think if you asked those Premier League players, do they want to contribute to the NHS, to the communities, to the challenge the country is facing now, they'd say absolutely they do.
As I already said, I don't really care if they take pay cuts or not. They pay a fair share.
But I do find it embarrassing for top flight clubs to be claiming off a job retention scheme designed to stop firms going under because of the virus.
Players could do something and I hope they do, but the issue is the owners and their greed, not the players.
The whole issue of money in football will come up more because of this though. Football isn't real life and that doesn't bother me. I still like it for what it is - a sport. But for others the money does matter.
