Is that an educated opinion Dave? Exercising the core muscles is very common in a wide range of sports. Footballers don't really need bulk as its essentially an endurance event. Core strength on the other hand is important to allow for the various twists and turns that are so common in football whilst maintaining good balance and posture.

It's highly likely that the coaching staff know a whole lot more about fitness than anyone on here.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury and prevention

Sometimes there really is no conspiracy at play.

Yeah, yeah. 'Core strength'. That's some lentil eating, eco-warrior's bullshit name for having supple large muscle groups. As attrotel says, bit of deep heat and some stretching exercises has been taking care of that for decades. But oh no, we have to buy into some Californian peacenik's philosophy to spin a story of making the most out of a threadbare squad with the 'revolutionaty approach (or as Dr Pleaseyerself put's it: "to induce maximum performance from one of the Premier League's minorities".)

:unsure::blink:

How will it help during sport?

  • It will provide more support for your back and may reduce the risk of back injuries.
  • It will provide a more stable base for arm and leg movements, improving the control and quality of your movements.
  • It will improve your muscular co-ordination during movement.
  • As the stabilising muscles gain more endurance you will be able to perform movements without your technique deteriorating excessively, due to fatigue.
  • Your ability to hold off opponents in contact sports should improve.

Core Strengthening Programme

Quite. A load of old cadswallop. Don't suppose athletes around the world and the people that train them have a clue.

You'll be saying a smoke and a curry before the match doesn't do any harm next. Bloody namby pamby nutritionists. Give the soft shits a kebab.

You're missing the point by a country mile: it's a panacea for a chronically understrength squad. "You'll get the extra mileage this season by stretching exercises for players called on to play more than other squads...just call it something fancy like 'Prehab'".

Talk about reinventing the wheel.

You can't win with some folks. It wasn't that long ago that fans would bemoan the fact that players couldn't play two games a week all season. "I can play at least ten five a side games a day..." sort of reasoning.

Mourinho used to bang on about an optimum squad being around 24 players. Our senior squad has 23 in it plus the likes of Turner, Coleman, Duffy, Mustafi, Baxter, the two American lads, Wallace, Lukas etc. We really aren't that short of numbers.

No amount of stretching or "prevention" on the pitch is going to save a player from getting an injury from a no talent heading him in the groin. Fact.

Don't worry, davek is from the half time orange, magic sponage and a pint at full time school

It's those American fitness instructors they got. Too much Taco Bell. Nah I heard it's only brusing, no surgery required.

Come on it did not happen in training but a very bad tackle in a match. A tackle which was not punished by the ref.

I personally think in these situations the club whose player suffered an injury which puts him out of the game for what ever period should take it up with the FA. The club should lodge a complaint to them with video evidence and request that action be taken regardless of what the ref did or did not do at the time.

I also think where a player suffers a very bad injury likwe Vic did and the offending players is sent, the injured player or his club should seek legal redress from the offending player and his club for the loss of services of it's player.

If people really wanted to clean up the game then they should get serious.

I don't really want to see football becoming a legal minefield. Sort it out on the pitch, and serious offences that get missed, via video evidence afterwards.
