Mind you, millions of kids in the U.K. and worldwide have benefitted through the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. I’m struggling to think of any single person who has introduced a scheme to equal it.....

Hear Hear. The scheme gave a lot of confidence to kids who didn't have much. I think it was born out of the educational philosophy of the founder of Gordonstoun who reckoned kids should have a general all-round ability instead of concentrating on just one thing they might be good at.
I lost a friend recently who was a big Labour man but who always praised the DoE scheme as a boon to youth workers and their young folk.

There was a message kept popping up earlier when my kid was watching Cbeebies about a major breaking story. That sort of thing should be reserved for an actual emergency that is a threat to the public.

I think you are the one who is out of touch. Like it or not, the British Royal Family retain high levels of approval and support from the British public.

And if you don't like what's on the BBC, change channels. What's stopping you? Plenty of choice these days.

Just look at the footage being published today in the media... of the people mourning and showing their respects. Are they all 70+ Tories? No. People from all walks of life support the BRF.

1. Let's have a referendum on the abolition of the monarchy. I will respect the result.

2. I have plenty of options and am not watching any of this pathetic charade (my ma in law is fuming that they have cancelled Corrie).

3. These pop up messages were emergency style on the normal TV and could not be disabled. It's as if we all needed to take some sort of action to avoid radiation poisoning.

The Royals are box office who draw millions to this country dying to get a glimpse. I think it's called mystique. Worth a bit of money too to shop-owners, hotels, tourist operators and that. What are you going to replace that with? Simon Cowell?
