I see your point here.

I am a republican, so this man's death means nothing to me.

His family, and a significant proportion of the country will obviously mourn his passing.

I don't hate any of the Royals personally.

Just see them as an anachronistic institution in our modern world.

Some of the responses on social media and on here are disgusting. It's the same [Poor language removed] all the time.

Understand that some don't like the Royal family and that understandable but why do they resort to hate. This word is screwed. Megan last week, Who the hate figure next week? I can't keep up.

1. Let's have a referendum on the abolition of the monarchy. I will respect the result.

2. I have plenty of options and am not watching any of this pathetic charade (my ma in law is fuming that they have cancelled Corrie).

3. These pop up messages were emergency style on the normal TV and could not be disabled. It's as if we all needed to take some sort of action to avoid radiation poisoning.

1 - I think we all now know that referendum results aren't accepted or respected. PS, support for The Monarchy would win ;-)
2 - I hate the BBC with a passion. We shouldn't be forced to pay for their 'service' in this day and age.
3 - This sounds like the film 'Greenland'. Where only the elites get the message and the invite to escape, and everyone else is left to fend for themselves...

1. I don't think anyone who voted in the last referendum has got what they wanted.

2. Corrie is on ITV.

3. It's not like a 99 year old dying was worthy of emergency style announcements.

It's sad for the family, as is any death. I think the media have gone into overdrive because their covid stories are drying up.

People still visit Versailles, you know?
Given the economic self harm leavers (the majority of whom are royalists) have caused this country, abolishing the monarchy, in economic terms, would pale into comparison. Tbf I don't think they add much to the economy anyway. As you allude to, we could open up all their land and property for all to enjoy (at a small fee).
