Oh Harro.

Not bad for a "church mouse" was it?

Leader...yesterday?

Phil Jagielka holds off Gary Cahill - as he did the rest of Chelsea's team

Only thing I didn't like is that he was nowhere near the ref when they were clattering our players. Meanwhile every Chelsea player was in his ear non stop.

I hate it but it's part of the game.

Leader...yesterday?

He did his work in the Tunnel when they were lining up. He doesn't need to act like one of them Muppets.

I do hear what you are saying, but Martinez philosophy demands his players have respect. Have a little faith in the system, you'll see.

I think theres more than one way to 'lead' or be a captain. We've seen the likes of Gerrard, Terry etc be all up in the refs face etc and everyone scream 'THATS A PROPER LEADER, A PROPER CAPTAIN' etc etc, but like i say, there's more than one way and Jagielka obviously leads differently, leads through his performances and the lads quite clearly like him.

Would i like him to be in the refs face more screaming for the decisions? Yes, i actually would. But a lot seem to be basing their 'HE IS NOT A GOOD CAPTAIN' argument on that alone.

I love Jagielka. Being only 22 he's hands down the best defender ive seen at Everton, he's brilliant.

That challenge on Costa by the way, set the standard. Thats what a Captain does, sets standards.

Got rinsed by Costa at the Bridge but he made up for it yesterday with a superb defensive performance.

He worked really well with Mori, stepping up to mark other men but then dropping back and telling Mori to take charge, really trying to keep the two of them compact when defending and taking responsibility for who was marking who.

How have the bolded players played enough to make these statements. I mean if you said Barkley, Rom, you may have a case, but what about Stones, Mirallas, Jags, Howard, Baines, players who have gone backwards or is it just because they're too old (bar stones). Our problem has been defence and if you're changing a team bit by bit- you'd sort the foundations first. I imagine Rom becoming available may of scuppered a bit of his planning, but the team of youngsters won't want to stick around whilst we languish in the lower half. We have the majority of England's back line and theye conceed at a rate of knots. They DON'T train on defensive set pieces. From Baines mouth. Unforgivable..

You dont need to build a team from the back. Martinez is an attacking manager and has been building from the front first.

Dont you see Robles has improved? Not sure what you mean about not having many games to show that? Hes improved from when he was at wigan and also kicked on from last season...seems evident to me.

Besic has improved enormously. You can see that even in his limited minutes compared to when he first arrived.

I don't really know if Robles has improved per se, but he's a lot more confident. Besic had that talent, see the world cup, he needed to adapt to the premiership's pace. Hence the stupid amount of soft tissue injuries. We may just have a difference of opinions but I think it's vital to have a solid defence. Martinez hasn't concentrated on that for 7 years in the prem. If he has to spend big in the summer to do so, he's doing it wrong.
