Jag's first touch which began the incident was ,while lamentable ,something that can happen to any player during a match. Of course when it's a CB who makes the mistake it can have more serious consequences since they are traditionally the last line of defence. But he does not make those mistakes often and has been a fine CB for us and has proved last season that he is still a very good player for us despite his years.
His tackle to my 'old money eyes' was a perfect ,ball first intervention, however to 'new money rules' it was a foul. His body shape , speed and angle meant he had the potential to go through the ball, which indeed he did.
I don't think it deserved a red , but a yellow.
Pickford should have done better.
But my biggest disappointment is that no one in our team was aware enough to contest the position of the resultant free kick which was erroneously placed. Even forcing it back a few yards closer to actual foul would have improved our chances immeasurably. We have to be wiser than this going forward.

I'm past blaming him for being crap. He's been terrible for a good four years or so now and was mediocre for a couple of years before that. He's never been a good captain at any point during his time here. It's not his fault that despite the fact that he's obviously crap, the club has kept him around not only as captian but first team regular long after we should of parted company.

It's a shame the club allowed thing to get to the stage where a once good player has become a liability who will be hounded out by some fans.

On the plus side, in previous seasons the deadline would be much later and we’d still be waiting.

Barcelona were in no rush as their deadline and season starts later. Chelsea were always going to loan players out at the last minute once they knew what their squad was.

As i said im made up with the signings we made in the end, just thought we wasted a bit of time acquiring them. When in reality we should have prioritised CB positions knowing full well that pairing that started yesterday were diabolical and not upto it. We would have strolled it with a competant defence yesterday.

You could learn a thing or two about loyalty. Horrible post, shameful.

So we should have just played with thin air at centre half last season? He played games because we needed him to play those games. Three centre halves couldn't start yesterday's game so we needed him to play yesterday, and so he played.

People must be conflating him with Ashley Williams, but forgetting which player has given us his upmost for 12 years of service.
Jags was close to going back to Sheffield United last summer, but Koeman wanted him to stay as back up. So the idea that he’s somehow fleeced EFC is laughable.

Really should have been sent packing a couple of years ago,but when you look at the recruitment of Everton, and he is still relied on and probably the best of the centre halves we have had during those 2 years says more about the managers and scouting than it does about Jags, lets be honest one of the more surprising moves by the staff at Goodison is the fact that Osman isnt still strutting his stuff here

No longer a problem for us because we have others now ahead of him. He may hardly get another game unless we are hammered with injuries. Thanks for the past though Jags. It is time to consider retirement.

Jags is past his best, he was unlucky to get a red card in my opinion however it was a big factor as to why we did not win the game....

Fantastic for Everton but for the last 3 seasons he has been waining.

Let's not kick him while he is down.

Age always catches up on the best of players and you can see why Silva wanted two central defenders.

I've been critical of his captaincy which has been awful on the pitch. He is a "nice guy" and we need real leaders.

All the best to him but he isn't a starting player for Everton this season.
A wain is an old expression for a cart

Richarlison appeared to be actively informing the idiot ref but was warned he was on a yellow.

For how much money it costs to watch football these days it's amazing how poor the officials are. VAR was great in the World Cup. The Germany goal conceded v South Korea would never have happened if it wasn't for the technology.

Firstly he hasn't always done his best, he's been half arsed on plenty of occasions. Secondly, quite frankly his best hasn't been good enough for about 3 seasons.
His best is all he's had for those 3 seasons, he's been a servant to the club and it's not his fault that the team in place couldn't sign a suitable replacement! No need to besmirch one of our own players, especially one who's served us as well as he has!

This will be the same as the niasse ban last season. We'll get lectured that tackling with a straight leg is out of control ergo a red, and then next week we'll be told by the same 'experts' when a man u or spurs player does the same that it's not a foul because he's got the ball.

How the fk is that a red? He gets the ball

This is the point some keep missing, it didn't matter whether he got the ball, the rules state that it was classed as serious foul play, Jags lost control of the ball, he then over stretches and lunges in at the ball, and because he over stretches and lunges in he's deemed not to be in control of his tackle, and to be using excessive force that could result in injuring a player. That's the reason that ref Peter Walton gave anyway at half time on BT. The funny thing is the ref doing the game said it was because Jags was stopping a goal scoring opportunity, which he wasn't IMO, so the ref got it wrong for that call.

As I started of saying, you can still get done for serious foul play even if you get the ball, if a player goes in with a really high boot, gets a 100% of the ball, he can still get done for serious foul play.
