2018/19 Phil Jagielka

Fell sorry for him. He’s been good down the years.

He put himself in that situation via poor control. But the sending off was harsh. Yellow at most.

That said he isn’t good enough anymore and probably knows it himself.

I disagree. Once the referee deems it a foul, he has no choice but to send him off. Jagz had no one on the cover while the foul was committed quite centrally and about 10 yards from the penalty area.

Is that the case though? Is there no difference between unwittingly committing a foul whilst trying to win the ball and deliberately fouling to prevent a goal?

The blame lies solely at the feet of Jagielka. He knew he wasn’t up to it, he has been a poor player now for almost 4 seasons. Scholes, Carragher, Gary Neville, Gerrard, John Terry, etc, all seen the writing on the wall for them and retired or dropped down the divisions.

That’s not for Jagielka, though. He prefers to just carry on taking the big money, regardless of making a show of himself.

Hate that we’re loyal to deadweights like him.
He was still our best CB last season though. It’s not his fault Everton have brought in a load of duds in his position that were worse than a 35 year old Jagielka.

Never a sending off. I feel sorry for him in that respect.

I don’t think miss-controlling has anything to do with his legs going or being past it though. It’s a mistake.
Jagielka has always been a backs to the wall, body on the line, last ditch tackle defender. He’s limited to Long diagonal balls and playing what’s in front of him. He can get away with that if he’s got someone beside him to take charge in possession.

For me, center backs pairings perform as a unit and they need to compliment each other.

I don’t think passing it around at the back suits him or Keane or any of the center backs from last season and that’s why they couldn’t make a decent partnership out of any combination last season. We seemed to be trying a different pairing every week.

Allardyce had to remove all passing responsibility and drop them back ten yards to stop the rot. That had a knock on effect on our midfield.

Silva needs to find a combination at center back, I think that’s what he meant when he said he needed another pre-season.

It was a sending off. Jags was over the hill two seasons ago.

Im gonna say it.. we should have had two cb's brought in earlier in the transfer window so we could hit the ground running. That was the priority position that we all knew needed sorting. Made up we brought Zouma and Mina in but they should have been signed up 3 weeks before deadline day.

Dreadful lunge, and it never would have happened if a man earning 50k a week to play football could control a simple pass. Barring injuries I don't expect to see him play certainly not start for us again. Zouma/Mina and Keane from now on.

You could learn a thing or two about loyalty. Horrible post, shameful.

So we should have just played with thin air at centre half last season? He played games because we needed him to play those games. Three centre halves couldn't start yesterday's game so we needed him to play yesterday, and so he played.

People must be conflating him with Ashley Williams, but forgetting which player has given us his upmost for 12 years of service.

On the plus side, in previous seasons the deadline would be much later and we’d still be waiting.

Barcelona were in no rush as their deadline and season starts later. Chelsea were always going to loan players out at the last minute once they knew what their squad was.

I’m glad we have replacements ready to go because I would hate his memory to be tarnished by playing on for too long like how Tim Howard played about 3 seasons too long and we all remember him as gash when actually he was pretty good most of the time. I love Jags but a few more mistakes like that losing us points and the love fades

I respect jags for the service given to the club and the player he was. The club are as much to blame for yesterday as he shouldn't have had his contract extended to this age. I don't get thou why when a player knows his best years are behind them they carry on and potentially tarnish a decent career for a few more quid when they are all millionaires. We have 4 other options at centre back now so jags should either go out on loan to a sheff Utd or retire and take up coaching.

He mis times a tackle so his career is at an end ?
Yes, his Everton career is over, it's not like this is the first time he's done something that's cost us, plenty of poor tackles giving away dangerous set pieces for a few years now. He still has a great football brain but his legs just can't get him to where he needs to be quickly enough any more. He could do a job in the championship but he's not up to pace for the Premiership anymore, no other teams hold onto relics of the past the way we do, not good enough and hasn't been for 3 years back to Sheffield Jags lad.
