Persistent standing at aways is now costing us tickets

Genuine question here but how do those of you who prefer to sit (and are strongly against standing) manage at the Anfield derby? I reckon that is one of the worst grounds for us all to be stood because people underneath wouldn't be able to see there. I never hear screams of "sit the **** down" there though?

The sit down attitude on here is typical of a lot of our fans, especially the boring ****s who go to the aways. Before I get slated for this I would just like to provide my opinion on the sit down/stand up thing. I personally prefer standing but if the majority are sat and by standing up (when it's pointless)I am preventing others from seeing the game, I would sit down. Standing up just for the sake of it just pisses people off behind and ruins their experience.

However, from my experience at places like City away (lower tier), West Ham away, Sunderland in the cup last season, Villa away (lower tier), all the best atmospheres have been on those occasions. I think it's some sort of self confidence thing with our fans where unless everyone is stood up and merged in with eachother, people don't like to start off a chant that often. That's why there is always loads of atmosphere before the game underneath the stand and when we all stand during the game. It's great going to places like Upton Park because due to the view at the front, everyone has to stand anyway and it nearly always results in a better atmosphere.

The next point I would like to make is that for the majority of aways we must have some of the most boring ****s in our away section in the whole of England. The stand up/sit down is one thing, but to sit down slumped in your chair with no intention of getting behind the team and moaning at anyone who stands at any point just pisses me off. I reckon 8/9 times out of 10 the ones who start getting aggressive are the sit down crew. Sometimes you stand in anticipation of something happening and [B[some old **** behind you starts tapping you on the shoulder to sit down  Why do they even bother going to the game?[/B]

What I want to know is what young kids and older people had to do years ago when it was all standing? Because i'm guessing they couldn't moan about the view back then so it seems a bit laughable now. Too many people these days love to go to the match, watch the game in silence and moan at every opportunity. I reckon they would have a better time watching it at home on tv.

I'm not suggesting we all start bouncing round at 0-3 like Villa would or all getting our shoes off and waving them above our heads like the Geordies. Just a bit of atmosphere would be good. That can be stood up or sat down but the main thing preventing a good atmosphere is mostly down to the sit down boring brigade who not only want to sit down in silence but jump at the chance of kicking off with everyone for getting in their way or daring to try and enjoy themselves.

That is no way to speak to, or about other people.

If you're going to discuss standing, fine, but there's no need to be slating other Evertonians.

Never ceases to amaze me how some people still have this mindset to defend standing at games, even when it's costing fellow Evertonians tickets.

You can still sing at away games you know. You can still jump up if there's chance on goal, or even if there is a goal. It's the persistent standing - standing when there's no reason to stand - that's the problem.

Sick and tired of people using the atmosphere excuse to defend their own selfish actions that are ultimately costing the club. You can't turn back time. We have all-seater stadiums now, for better or worse. Most people think for the better. Just deal with it, and if you don't like the rules, don't spend £30+ to break them and ultimately spoil everyone else's enjoyment in the short/long term.

If a load of people are standing you're not going to tell them all to sit down. Pretty obvious.

I am finding this discussion hilarious. I genuinely didn't know it was such a hot issue for so many people. I vaguely knew there was a movement albeit at grass roots level to start a motion to lobby the powers that be to start a discussion on introducing a standing section at PL grounds. I do not believe it will ever happen, there is no money to be made from it and they will find it harder to control and manipulate you're every move.

The funny thing is, proponents of standing actually think this will lead to cut price tickets. Most football clubs in this day and age are looking to make more money, not less. They'll do kids ticket deals for season tickets etc, but 95% of the time, ticket prices are going up.

The overall problem is - unfortunately, and whether this is true or not, is the perception of many, including the police - that standing is allied to unruly behaviour.

Always makes me laugh that, as if having people stand up at the game will suddenly make the player's wages plummet or general costs go down.

Fair enough, I take that back then.

My view isn't really that sitting down is a problem. I just think there is less chance of a good atmosphere when everyone sits down and it's usually a better atmosphere when everyone stands.

If we still made a good atmosphere with everyone sat I wouldn't mind one bit. I also wouldn't stand up if others behind me couldn't see. It's only when whole rows are stood in front of me that I stand anyway.

This is one of those things where the soution is obvious. Some want to sit. Some want to stand. So let's give each the choice. As Germany (and our rugby grounds) has shown, standing can be as safe as seating (probably safer).

I know there's an emotional reluctance to bring back standing given the reasons for the introduction of all seating, but it lacks logic. There's far more risky public places than terracing in football grounds, situations where people are still crammed into a heaving mass eg London tubes, rock concerts.

Do we stand or don't we? Half was standing last night and half wasn't. I only stand when people obscuring my view stand, when they sit, I sit.

People in front of me stood, I stood, people behind me complained, they stayed sitting. It's up to them to stand up but we all need to be together on this.

I understand its harder for the older people to stand up for long periods of time but people need to realise that if I'm standing up, stand up behind me, don't sit there and tut because if I get onto it next time I'll be the first one who speaks my mind.

Don't sit behind me when I'm standing and pull faces, stand up as well, it's what you do. I won't feel guilty if you stay seated. Just join in with everyone else.

Stand up and join in the atmosphere.

Another point I wanna raise as well, as I approached my seat the person next to me made eye contact so I said "alright mate" and he ignored me. There was people around me who were miserable, who seemed like they went out looking for the bingo and ended up in the emirates. Few of us were singing and people sat there miserable looking glum like we were some sort of yobs. Everyone is there for a good time so let's all get into the spirit ay.

Totally agree with what you're saying.
People infront of me stand up all the time so I stand and get told to sit down?

I am not one for singing though, specially with family at the game...
At away games, I sing. I find home games boring to be honest so don't sing.
