Persistence of Martinez - Time to change.

Maybe the title was misleading because I am fully behind Martinez. However, he has got to recognize that the 4231 just isn't working with the players he is using anyway:
1. Barry - Slow, lost all desire and is a shadow of the player he was last season. Time to be ruthless and drop him.
2. Naisy (out wide) - This just doesn't work. Centrally or nowhere.
3. Barkley (out wide) - Should also play centrally whether it is deeper or behind the striker.
4. Distin - Can't pass, slows us down. Stones back soon is the best news for a while.
5. Baines - Maybe Garbutt is a better option at the moment. Seems to care about his hair more than Football.
6. Lukaku - Time to prove your worth. Doesn't seem to care at the moment either. I'd bring Kone in.
Hoping for a new formation in the coming games, even some experimentation.
Stoke, Newcastle and Hull won't be easy.
Really cannot disagree with any of that...
Changes need to be made...

Just seems so weird because he changed the tactics quite radically for Wolfsburg and it was fantastic. And then appears to completely forget about it. And then we have our best looking CM for ages in Besic and Barkley against QPR...and then appears to completely forget about it.

On another note, it was almost hilarious watching the clockwork regularity of what happened when we got in the final third - an Everton forward has no option but to just try and plough through 5 Southampton defenders in the middle of their box and gets dispossessed.

Good post. Martinez needs to stick to a winning team he has his favourites who don't warrant playing.

Football is not a complicated game, but is being made complicated by "New breed" of managers who are trying to be too clever and complicate things.

Big Sam has proven it for yrs.

90% of people on here agree with the main problems easy to resolve (drop dustbin, Barkley central, drop Barry, Howard needs competition), its concerning one man doesn't see it.

Lets be fair, QPR are just treading water on home form only, they are dross away. Lets also call it fair, even at home QPR aint all that. A gimme vs them is no sign of a changed scenario. The knives were out for Moyes re no plan B. Martinez has to shape up the side.

Just read an interesting article about Borussia Dortmund on World Soccer. Teams have found them out it says, Klopp never makes the right substitutions, they are ponderous at times. Sounds familiar, one thing there doesn't seem to be is a call for Klopps head, only half way through the season and the team are good enough to still challenge their fans are saying. Can't beat a Germans logic and optimism as they are second bottom.

I'm as down hearted as the next blue but let's get some perspective here and back the team and the manager, calling for Martinez to be sacked is just madness. Sure I read somewhere that some blues want Pulis in charge, FFS.

We need to make Goodison somewhere away teams don't want to come to, we can do something about that by turning it from a f'ing graveyard to a cauldron. As soon as we pass it back now there are trains all over the place. Get behind the f'ing team

Anyone else just get the feeling he's more arsed about the Europa League?

Seemed that way right from pre season.

If we win that competition or the FA cup I'd forgive him for the poor league form.

But we should be able to do well on all fronts. For the first time i'm starting to question him.

I always worry when people have ideologies and philosophies to the extent of becoming stubborn.

He spoke when he came into the club a lot of how we need to be able to adapt (3 at the back) but recently, his tactics in my opinion have been bemusing and not up to scratch, to the point where we are so predictable, it's baffling.

Wouldn't say it's quite panic stations just yet but I agree changes need to be made. For starters players need to be played in their positions. Seems obvious, that, but it hasn't been happening.

I felt like he didn't believe that our team was better than Southampton's, and we seemed to set up a little negatively.

Another 4-0 at home to Stoke would be nice to get some good feeling back into the crowd.

It really was a joke.

OK I'm going to do this in (hopefully) a non knee-jerk and fume way

1) Unfortunately this is not FM and we can't just park 3 strikers in front of Barkley. Naismith can do a job shutting down people on the wing (Villa game) however we need a 'clogger' in the absence of McCarthy to flood the midfield. Every game I see the midfield getting disconnected and running into blind spots. When Barkley runs he needs support, people are just waiting for the perfect FIFA long pass, if that makes sense.

2) Our centre backs and keeper are just clearly not comfortable on the ball even under very mild pressure which leads to back passes again and again

3) Lack of interplay in the wings that leads us open and susceptible to counters, especially if we fall behind.

4) A lone striker who's link-up play is improving but still looks frequently isolated.

5) a hope that the players have the talent and wherewithal to shake things round.I believe we need to make substitutions earlier.

6) The same game from the start. Martinez has shown in Europa that we can go away and play on the counter and get results and change the team formation - far from the ideologue people claim Martinez to be. We've even done it at Anfield and Hibbert was actually quite boss. We need to think about other styles other than flooding possesion

I feel we're two consecutive wins away from gaining confidence, but knee jerking 'Martinez out' from the usual suspects who simply want a return to Pulis hoofball and grinding to 8th each year and are happy not trying something different after our highest premier league points total EVER does not help
He did it at Anfield (thank god) probably because we where thumped 4-0 the previous season.

But you're right about Europa. So far he's been brilliant and got it spot on.

Just watched MOTD, the pundits wre not very complimentary towards Martinez. Shearer said Matrinez has no plan B,and asked what's wrong with a long ball upto Lakaku now and again,he said Lakaku is big enough and strong enough to deal with it, but I just can't see Martinez changing.even tho everyone has us Sussed worrying times indeed..

Probably because he jumps under it. I don't think we should be playing long balls. But some crosses would be nice. Teams literally sit back and wait until we get to those positions. We have Baines who used to be the best crosser in Europe and a 6 foot 3 Lukaku and we keep cutting inside and trying to play through the middle. If Baines can't find the ability to cross again then we have Garbutt who puts in wicked cross that just drops at the last minute.
