Persistence of Martinez - Time to change.

Maybe the title was misleading because I am fully behind Martinez. However, he has got to recognize that the 4231 just isn't working with the players he is using anyway:
1. Barry - Slow, lost all desire and is a shadow of the player he was last season. Time to be ruthless and drop him.
2. Naisy (out wide) - This just doesn't work. Centrally or nowhere.
3. Barkley (out wide) - Should also play centrally whether it is deeper or behind the striker.
4. Distin - Can't pass, slows us down. Stones back soon is the best news for a while.
5. Baines - Maybe Garbutt is a better option at the moment. Seems to care about his hair more than Football.
6. Lukaku - Time to prove your worth. Doesn't seem to care at the moment either. I'd bring Kone in.
Hoping for a new formation in the coming games, even some experimentation.
Stoke, Newcastle and Hull won't be easy.

I agree with it all except for Lukaku. I'd agree that he isn't aggressive enough at the moment but I think the team are sapping all the energy out of his game with the lack of chances they are creating for him. It's not all on them I know that but it must be irritating to have no service at all. He gets balls smashed at him with defenders marking him and we rarely ever create a chance for him.

Other than that I agree entirely. Barkley needs to be played in the centre and Barry needs to be dropped.

We've set up multiple times this season without a winger, and I honestly can't remember if we've won or drawn any of them?

It's funny because we've won games with McGeady starting on the wing, we won and he played okay, but fans were slating him regardless.

Players like him offer real width and it's always effective to be direct against the other team's backline. Both Barkley and Naismith shouldn't be playing if the only option is on the wing, it just doesn't work with them there.

Using zero subs in a game we're losing is madness.

Great post mate. Agree with absolutely everything, especially regarding Barry, Baines and Distin.

1. Barry's objective last season was to impress, get tied down on a contract, then do [Poor language removed] all in my opinion. He's at the end of his career, so to be honest, I don't really blame him? Martinez should have seen that though. Any pairing of McCarthy/Barkley/Besic should be used in that role from now on.

2. Baines just really hasn't been his consistent self for a couple of seasons, and I think he needs to be dropped for either Garbutt or Oviedo (when he's fully fit again). Sick of that fanny hairstyle he keeps fixing during games as well mate.

3. Distin is just a joke. He's a [Poor language removed] uncapped 37 year old? Slow, clumsy and finished. I'm not a massive Jags fan, but he looks much more composed and effective alongside Stones, yet brutal beside Distin. Why didn't we grow a set and sign Toby Alderweireld? I'm pretty sure we were linked with him for a while, and he looked brilliant yesterday. Typical Everton. Another signing swallowed.

I also don't think Eto'o should be starting games in the league. When we signed him I genuinely thought his role would be as an impact sub, or possibly to start Cup games and European ties. It's not his fault, but he just isn't up to starting games in the Prem anymore, especially in that AM role. He's still brilliant, and could offer a lot more coming off the bench in my opinion.

I agree, McGeady is much better than he gets credit for. The life of a winger is to beat full backs, which usually requires something fancy or a bit of trickery. When it doesn't come off, they look like tits. However, when McGeady beats a full back, he usually gets a decent cross in. If he can replicate that twice in a match, it could be just the service Lukaku needs to win us the game.

On the other hand, Barkley and Naismith keep drifting inside from the wing, and considering that's their natural position, I don't blame them. But there is no point Martinez playing them out wide if it's not their role. Becomes a waste.

RE:
1. Barry's weaknesses were highlighted early in the season from me and people seemed to laugh and tell me how key he is in the system we play but now he is being found out.
2. Baines might have the stats for the best left back in the world but we watch him every week and he simply hasn't been good enough. Plus needs to get a 3 all over.
3. The centre back issue should have been addressed in the summer but Mr.Martinez said we didn't need any and was happy with what we already had. You were wrong on that one.
Eto'o. I think he is an impact player too. He can't play on the wing IMO so the only spaces available are CAM or ST and I don't think he starts in either of those positions tbh.

All points to poor man and team mangement, shades of Wigan!

First time I genuinely doubted Roberto yesterday. I want him to learn from his mistakes and prove that he's not ignorant to the system's faults. Sitting on his L shaped couch, surely he can see that playing with 3 attacking mids simply doesn't work. You need one, and two wingers. I don't think we've won a single game in which he's tried to shoehorn Eto'o, Naismith and Barkley into the same team. Start McGeady even if he is frustrating as he adds balance, and buy another winger in January.

He just needs to grow some balls IMHO.

1. Drop Baines; unfathomable to think really, but he can't cross, he can't defend and his set pieces have gone to pot... We have Garbutt, who's raw, but can at least deliver a cross, who's chomping at the bit to get in the team.

2. Have a plan B; everyone can see what we're gonna do, and unless there is an injection of pace (second old team in prem according to Sky), then the paas and stand still isn't going to work.

3. Keep barkley in his right position; he's absolutely gash on the wing, and isn't in the centre.

4. Sign some pace; similar to point two, but we're too slow and it's costing us dearly. Oh and sign a new goalie, and drop Distin.

5. Subs; they are there for a reason, use them.
