Persistence of Martinez - Time to change.

I've doubted his team, subs etc before but yesterday was the first time I've became really disillusioned with Martinez. My problem with him is that he continues to make the same mistakes! He is incapable of changing it when things aren't going our way. I said at half time yesterday that any decent manager would be changing it up there and then, the fact that he took 85 mins to make a change, after we had gone 2-0 and 3-0 down, is very worrying! I don't think he is going to change his formation unfortunately, he cannot continue to put players out of position though! Yesterday was just awful, he has Barkley and Naismith out wide and etoo in the position that either of those 2 should be occupying! So that's the 3 attackers behind lukaku all out of position! I don't understand his thinking at all! I think we have enough options in the correct positions:

Striker - Lukaku is still young and inconsistent so he should be rotating with etoo and also we have Kone as an option now!

No.10 role - Barkley or Naismith, easy! Osman is an option too if neither are available

Wingers - ok that's a problem position especially with mirallas out, but McGeady and Pienaar are both fit and available! Naismith can occupy this position in emergencies only but Barkley should not under any circumstances be out wide! Oviedo also can be used when fit. Needs investment in January

Midfielders - McCarthy and Besic easy! While McCarthy is out Barkley should be in there, Barry is an option but he should be used sparingly now IMO. Gibson when he's fit is an option, osman can be used there too in emergencies

Defenders - jags and stones, distin and Alcaraz as backup

Full backs - Baines and Coleman, Oviedo, Garbutt and browning are options, hibbert only in emergencies

GK - Howard, needs competition, investment in January

No doubt I've probs forgot someone but my point is that we have enough options not to be shoehorning players out of position!
Could not have put it better myself. I don't care how much a player costs or how good he has been in the past. If it is not working then fix it

I reckon he needs to cut the crap he talks, this weekend ,he's the only one who thinks the only difference was the goals, that we matched them, etc.now I've followed this site, watched tv ,read newspapers and nobody agrees with that.
do the players believe the bull he talks.numerous games this season he's come out and stated we're incredible.unique,etc.he even remained positive after we laboured through Hull ffs.
We know good football when we see it,RM is fooling nobody with his match analysis.start kicking some butts in the dressing room, start bollocking the players when they deserve it,and by god don't they deserve it. no more mr nice guy please

TO be fair I would think what he does and says in the dressing room is totally different to anything he says in front of the camera.well at least I hope so:eek:.. all good managers talk a lot without saying sweet fa to the media,, it would be suicide to publicly criticise your players

Football is not a complicated game, but is being made complicated by "New breed" of managers who are trying to be too clever and complicate things.

Big Sam has proven it for yrs.

90% of people on here agree with the main problems easy to resolve (drop dustbin, Barkley central, drop Barry, Howard needs competition), its concerning one man doesn't see it.

I agree with this 100%. Some of these managers are treating the sport like it's Rocket Science. Even the use of the word philosophy in relation to football is pretty embarrassing. Let's get back to basics and go from there. If it's good enough for the league leaders to go direct at times it's good enough for us.

Mouriniho shows his tactical brilliance year after year, club after club. You Can NOT have just one way of playing, one philosophy...You will not be succesfull. The only team ever to do that is the recent Barca team, maybe the Ajax of years ago, but barca were special, with special players and money to buy big.

Jose can and more importantly WILL win in many different ways. Bobby it seems much like wenger and Brenda has one way and will not or doesn't know how to win another way.

And as much as RM goes on about our squad needing to come to terms with rotation etc, he seems to not quite understand it himself yet as it certainly doesn't mean just rotate players out of posistion

Mourinho has always had money to buy players. However, I do agree that mourniho has brilliant tacticians skills.

I've got to laugh because we only have ourselves to blame. 12 months ago we all bought into Martinez and how wonderful and slick he is. We were walking on air. "He's no Moyes, he wants to WIN away from home! He uses the squad in the game to get a result!" He is exceptional! Martinez used the expression "it's in our DNA" OMG! Let's put that everywhere! On the billboards, on the website. "It's in our DNA!" "We go the game!"

Now while all that was great, we bought into the Martinez way far too quick. How many of us actually said "I'm behind the manager but let's not jump to conclusions until he's been here for a long enough period"
We were all taken in by his positivity and enthusiasm, most thought he was the next Barca manager! Really? After 6 months in the Everton job? What a statement to make!
We put his picture up on the ground! There's nothing that says you are invincible like a picture on the side of the stadium! We've all gone a little bit too far. He's a good manager but he's no Harry, he's no Howard! Not yet! Let's just all calm down a bit and not jump to judgment too fast in future because right now we all look like dicks.

Are their really people who want Martinez gone ???

No they do not want him gone - they want him to change things. Playing too slowly is getting us nowhere.

Last season he use to put subs on and most of the time they paid off (the subs would come on and change the games).

Play Barkley either behind Lukaku or in the position he did against QPR.

Playing Barkley or Naismith wide does not work.

Im reading about people loing faith in him, calling him all sorts.

Some people are sounding like the United fans last season after not winning the league for a season.

Its pathetic.

And if he can manage it,kick his own arse as well.

Let's not get carried away.
Saturday was probably our most disappointing result of the season because Southampton should have been vulnerable with injuries and suspensions.... but all clubs have poor results at times.

At the moment I think we have two problems.
1. A lack of pace in attack.
2. A certain degree of staleness in team selection.

Last season at this time Deulofeu was making an impact and gave our forward line a huge level of pace
and equal amount of unpredictability. Mirallas was doing exactly the same thing.
This term we are relying exclusively on Mirallas to offer the pace and imagination and it is too much to ask of one player.
I had hoped McGeady would play with more flair and invention than he has done, he has bought into the team ethic and does work hard, but he does not offer enough threat going forward...so far.

I also think the team needs to be shaken up a little , it is too predictable, teams know whats coming and are able to select team to counter the threat we offer.
At the start of the season we played a back five and were very dangerous going forward but were leaking some soft goals. But, at least look at that formation again and see could we modify it someway. We look absolutely toothless at the moment. It would free up Baines and Coleman to attack down the wing. Maybe play Barry as a sweeper behind the three centrhalves.
Give Grbutt a couple of games and bring some freshness to the team as the inclusion of John Stones did last season.
I would like to see Kone et some time in the team as well as he plays like the kind of centreforward that Evertonians are used to.

I see no reaon to panic, but if asked to describe the season so far...I would say "STALE".

Tell you what is pathetic, being Sussed out by all the managers in the prem and not having a plan B.

Actually most of both those teams came from their academies.

But I agree they where both special cases.

I don't mind the possession football and don't want to see us "going" long but one of Tika Taka's main criticism is that it's used defensively as much as offensively i.e. they can't score if we have the ball.

1. That's boring
2. It's wrong, the most dangerous time there is to concede is just after you've lost the ball.

We're finding that out this season however we just need legs in midfield to stop the counters and to win the ball back quickly. The amount of times Distin cleaned up last season was unreal but he doesn't seem to quite have it this year although unlike most people defensively I think he's been doing OK, it's just in possession he's really poor.

I don't think we are far off. I still believe but we need to recognize and sort out the problems. Going direct won't help.
