Are we too demanding and unrealistic

We're missing out on another down season for the league, when making a run for Europe is within our grasp. That changes the calibre of player you can attract and increases the club's reputation. (Please don't think anyone born this century in another country knows or cares who we are)
The last big one was 15-16 when Martinez fed us a turd sandwich and 72 points would have gotten us second. If only he trained defenders.

The sense I generally get is that our fans all have their own specific biases, and only enforce the NSNO mentality based on those predetermined ideas.

Some players (Barry) will be criticised for comically meaningless things like a dancing celebration, as a lot of people formed the opinion early that they didn't like him, made a show of it and now are unwilling or unable to revise their view of the player.

Other players (Keane) are able to have a history of years of costly errors, bozo moments, statistically undeniable proof of being detrimental to our defensive record - and yet retains a loyal following of people who will immediately jump to defend his honour when questioned.

What you realise if you ponder this is that it has very little to do with football, and much more to do with personality. Everton fans are pathologically obsessed with the personality of our players. If you think of what many blue's would describe as the ideal Everton player I dont think many of the words used would relate to technical ability. It would be aggression, graft, never say die attitude, physical resilience.

Basically people expect all of our players to be Peter Reid, and in 2026 this is obviously very silly. Football has moved on from those types of personalities and our fanbase needs to move on.

In my opinion it should all be about progress, last year we finished 13th on 48 points and our squad included multiple bang average aging players on extremely high salaries.
If we finish this season top half (even though it might be 9-10th and that doesn't get you anything), on something like 55-60 points, that's good enough for the moment, since we haven't finished top half since COVID and Ancelotti. And a lot of the deadwood is gone and has been replaced with players with actual resell values that won't run down their contract like DCL, Doucouré etc.
Forrest got into Europe out of nowhere, Crystal Palace won an FA Cup, Newcastle are back in the Champions League, Villa are firing on all fronts- all of these teams have been relegated in recent years but have come back and given their fans something to remember...we have 1995. I dont think we are Real Madrid or Man Utd but certainly as big and sustainable as the clubs I mentioned earlier. Yes we are making progress but its ok to dream and have a great season in there too...both things can be possible!

I would like to see a TV show where the whole world is destroyed by a deadly virus and the only thing left is Everton and Everton fans

The club has been broken by a succession of bad decisions and bad luck. We were lucky it wasn't relegated and destroyed entirely. We are still here at the top table. It will obviously take time to recover properly.

People complaining now are like those blaming Labour for pot holes and illegal immigration, even though both of those are slowly improving after being caused by 15 or so years of tory neglect, negligence and ineptitude.

indeed. it’s piddles me off people think all the previous hasn’t happened

win the league moyes or get out!!!

we are getting stability it’s a start

I answered yes but it I think long term we have been very patient but in the short term (game/season) we have been impatient (like all fans!).

When judging where we should be I would start with revenue versus our competition. It's sad but defines every teams expected place.

There definitely seems to be a correlation between the people who believe this and voted "no" in the poll. Startling.
