oviedo....

I get you.

I respect Sharpy's right to have an opinion, but i also respect my right to tell him he's being stupid. Most of the issues people have with Oviedo is that he's too lighweight and gets pushed off the ball too easily, which is exactly the kind of thing which can improve with time.

That's fair enough, then you're arguing about the player and not complaining about Inappropriate Opinion Time.

Ive yet to see Nani play anywhere near an acceptable level.

He had a spell when he was the best player in the league. Clearly that was just a blip though and we should have waited until now to agree on your original opinion of him being trash.

Lets all slate a 22yr old who came from an absolutely dire league for not adapting to the English game fully because he has had about 3hrs worth of football this year. Brilliant.

Who's slating Oviedo? Has he even played yet?? Granted I am used to falling asleep in the second half.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE

I think players tend to do a lot better when people support them, but you never know, they may need the motivation.

We should hire a bully who just goes round flicking players with rulers if they don't do well.

Jela has had his head down the Dunnies since August.

It's one thing saying this or that player is crap, but the reality is that this is largely irrelevant. Quality isn't absolute, it's relative, and Oviedo is the best back-up we currently have, and will have for the remainder of the season.

Given that is the case, there seems little point getting on the lads back.

Yeah.

The thing is, sometimes you can tell from cameos. If they're obviously brilliant (see Rooney vs the arse) or if they're obviously not up to it (Dia) you can sometimes tell within ten minutes.

And sometimes people take a bit of time. Different sport I know, but AB de Villiers is arguably the best batsmen in the world at the moment, yet in his first 4 years in test cricket he averaged around 36. In the 6 years since then he's only averaged under 57 once (and that was 47!).

At 22 Didier Drogba was signed by Guingamp for £80,000. Hard to tell at that age that he'd have become arguably the best striker in the world.

Writing a player off after 13 appearances.

He's played 227 minutes of football for us, two and a half full games worth ffs.

Cracking support.

This. I seriously can't believe how much some fans on here turn on our players. Not constructive criticism at all. Just the whole "NSNO no one is good enough for this club, we should be da biggest club in der werld..." Mentality.

haha, it's mainly knee jerk crap after a poor team performance, when certain players will be singled out for some of the armchair experts to critique their contribution & conclude that they're gash.

Its the consistant slateing of another player (Naismith) that brings Oviedos performances & ability to light. This lad has played and although he definately has alot more ability with the ball than Naismith he certainly lacks a cutting edge/final product.

There has been nothing to suggest that he will become an integral part of the first team either. Hes sort of just there when he comes on with everyone hopeing he'll actually change the game or do something. Hes yet to change a game or any effect on the opposition.

So therefore I'll hold my judgement that hes done nothing so far and is relatively gash. But also give him the benefit of the doubt because hes young and its his first season.

But at the same time I'll hold my judgement on Naismith as a poor footballer but someone whos grabbed a few goals and has been played out of position almost 100% of his appearances.

So you say he's playing solely out of position, yet still use his performances when playing out of position as evidence to support your claim that he's rubbish?

No I actually prefer Naismith but he lacks in techical ability. However he has a cutting edge, where he can grab a goal. Hes shown this and he has played out of position every game apart from United away.
