Official: "Neville to leave the blues"

Its apparent that his legs aren't able to handle the week to week grind of the prem anymore (he did have a solid game against UTD in August when he had a full offseason of rest) and any notion that he could still do it in the prem were blown up after looking out of his depth against Oldham.

People forget that for a time a few years back there was a time in which it seemed our fair club would get down on one knee and kiss the gold ring of the bigger moneyied squads. However Pip was not one of them and always seemed to play his best against said clubs. Its not a considence that up until the 2011-12 season we had a better record when he was in the starting 11.

I also got to see him hit a screamer at Molineux and thought he was personally pointing at me after the goal. I bet we all felt like that then.

Given that they appear to be mates, Nev's ambition to be a manager and playing the same position I also think he had an impact helping to turn Coleman into a player that was pretty hopeless defensively into a solid defender who should be at RB for quite a while with us.

This is such a pointless stat.

He played over 30 league games most years, there's no way that proves one way or the other that he had a positive impact on our play.

Think it says a lot that after 8 years his highlights are a minute long, tbh.

Neville has naff all to do with your two examples here:

- Carragher wasn't captain and thus wasn't responsible for the mentality of the team. He also got dropped when it was obvious his legs didn't carry him at the highest level like they used to.

- Kendall was a winner, and those taking the piss are rightly criticised by myself and many others (but that still leaves me free to criticise Neville's tenure as captain).

- Neville's infamous comment about how we are massively over-achieving to even finish top 10 was the final nail in the coffin for many of us.

He was a substandard captain and an average squad player. Off the pitch, he was a good servant, well-liked by all and a model pro.

Sounds fair?

So are you saying that because Neville was captain and responsible for the mentality of the team that he's failed as captain? I know we've bottled it in some big games but Neville can't shoulder all the blame, after all he's the only one in our current squad who has actually won trophies. We've 10 other players and a manager who are responsible for this also. Also Carragher was vice captain and very frequently lead the side in Gerrard's absence.

Neville has been dropped, admittedly a bit late but he's been out of the squad despite being fit for 3 games now. I'm positive that if Moyes had been able to bring in the players he wanted in the summer (I.E. Fer) then Neville would have started very few games this year. It's not his fault we've got a crap centre midfield and that we've got few players who would be suited to being captain.

I'm not so much pulling people up on criticising Neville's shortcomings as a football player but if you're going to do that then at least recognise his strengths. It's the lack of respect. Some people seem to think he's stolen a living off us and Moyes has been playing him for the last 8 years for a laugh. Which is ridiculous.

Those "top 10" comments were well out of order, I'll agree with that. Maybe he doesn't quite "get" that bit as much as we do but he's not a blue.

Not really very fair comparing people pleased that a poor footballer is leaving their club, to those mocking a once dignified man with a disease.

As for that lot with carra, well he was another grim footballer who could only make it in this country were we applaud lumping the ball out of play, if you want to hold up them lot sycophantically claiming anyone whos been the bogs in anfield is a legend and world class as an example fair enough, that sort of stuff isn't really for me

Maybe it's not the ideal comparison but it's something that sticks out to me as a difference in mentality between the two clubs.

And Carragher was a very good defender.

Probably would make a better coach than Sheeds (too good a footballer). Should be welcomed back as assistant manager when he finishes (perhaps after next season). Model pro. Good captain.

Obviously this season was one too many but Moyes saw that after the Wigan game. In fairness you never heard him moan about being dropped so he deserves great credit for accepting the inevitable.

People putting a great leader.......WTF!!!!

What planet are you living in. How can we as evertonians have settled for this. He wasn't a great leader and he was a very poor player.

I have no sentiment for player. Thay come an go. Im not arsed. He's **** Im happy he won't playing next season for us.....

Move on....

Thanks for all the effort and the pointing phil, a fine captain. I loved his rare goals too.

But I am delighted I won't see him in centre mid again.

Have a bit of respect you little bitch!

I thought it was coming. Isn't Bury his club? They'll be getting relegated into League 2 though, whereas I don't think he'd want to drop much lower than the Championship. Bolton or Burnley would seem to be the obvious choices unless Bury rivalry rules them out.

I was gutted when we signed him but he's been a great person to have around the club and I'm sure he'll make an excellent coach. Hopefully we'll see him back at Finch Farm in the future.

If Hibbo's injury problems persist we look a bit short on experience at right back and we could probably do with bringing in another utility player.

I don't understand this.
What about Everton are you a fan of?
Is it just a crest and a colour, devoid of any context?
You would take the rat from the reds so long as he gets us victories?

Its one thing sticking to our credo 'Nil Satis', but its another acting utterly entitled.
You probably spend more time at games booing Naismith, Neville and Anichebe in the past then you do cheering, because 'How can we have settled for this...'

top pro and top captain for us never gave anything than 100% didnt deserve half the stick he got but there comes a time where all good things must end and today is that day wish phil all the best whereever he ends up next year thanks for the 8 years!
