Current Affairs No-kill, lab-grown meat to go on sale for first time

I'd be more willing to eat things like quorn if it was financially beneficial as well. Costs the same as normal beef mince for example so can't be bothered switching.

I think that's when we'll make the biggest dent in the world's meat-eating habits, when the alternatives are significantly cheaper. But I suspect it's not just the cost for you atm if the prices are the same. Meat is delicious like, I do miss it sometimes. But giving it up or cutting back on it is just a really good thing to do for all sorts of reasons beyond price

Oh yeh I just mean right now if it's £3 for beef mince and £3 for quorn mince even though it's better for me, the world or whatever to pick qorn I just love the taste of beef mince too much to switch yet.

I'd never been so skint when I went on a health fad paying billions for avocados etc.

I wouldn't conflate vegetarianism with healthy eating or avocados either tbh. I had a crap diet when I ate meat, and I have a crap diet now. Hummous is the worst, it's too delicious not to mow through a whole tub in a single sitting

The difference between supermarket meat and high quality butcher's meat is substantial.

I'd be willing to try it but would have my reservations. I think people should eat less meat to have the highest quality they can afford. I'm struggling to imagine that at this relatively early stage of development it will be any more than a basic level of taste.

Although I also had a kebab last night so I don't always practice what I preach.
Same. Will generally avoid processed meat unless I’m hungover. Only have vege stuff in the house. Apart from chorizo. When I do buy meat a land dairy will try to just buy British. Understand this isn’t financially viable to everyone

Most of my meat is seasoned to death and covered in sauce or gravy anyway, can't even tell the difference.

To really succeed, this stuff just needs to distance itself from the unfortunate association with sanctimonious salad sh*ggers who become pseudo-vegan for the soul purpose of being the center of attention during group meals out (assuming you can find an "acceptable" restaurant in the first place).

This bit struck me:

Can only be a good thing. Aside from the incredible cruelty of the industry, the environmental impact is immense. I don't know whether humanity has the will to make this more widespread, or the technology to expand it fast enough, but here's hoping it's the start of something.

Anything that can speed up the demise of factory farming can only be a good thing for the world.

And that`s without starting on " wet markets " and forest clearance for beef cattle.

One of the jobs I used to do,brought us to a battery chicken farm,it was the stuff of nightmares, most you could class them as fowl they were deformed, almost featherless and the the place stunk to high heaven, with this job I had helped unblock main sewer drains, chemical tankers etc, nothing made me feel as ill as that chicken place

My mate is part of a charity that rescues and re homes ex battery hens, he`s got a nice little flock himself.

I`ve been at his when a load have arrived straight from whichever hell hole they`ve come from.

When they are taken out of their crates and placed into their outdoor pens, most of them don`t even move, they just sit down on the ground, as they quite literally don`t know what to do or what " outside " is.

The condition they arrive in is often disgusting - bald, covered in sores and always underweight.

It`s so wrong and as @Prevenger17 says if only more people could see things like this, they`d ditch meat for good.

Virtually all intensive"farming" of animals is the same, from dog breeders to cattle its vile, all about the money nothing about animal welfare
