Nikica Jelavic

Thought Jelavic was trying and some of his link up play as very good (one bit of great skill and control springs to mind). But again, no goals. I don't think being the lone striker in this system necessarily gives you tons of chances though, so if you're off form then you're not likely to be clinical enough to take the few you do get.

Kone really needs more of a chance. He did quite well yesterday but only got 20 minutes.

Jelavic is playing better. It helps that Bob isn't deploying him out wide like Moyes did. He's also been one of the most unluckiest players in the prem for a long time now. I understand why Martinez is going with him as the starter. His game probably fits Martinez's system the best and if he became somewhere around 80% of the goal scorer he once was here I think 4th is a realistic posibility.

That being said I think we can only afford to give him 1-2 more matches tops as the starter.

It was evident to see that Kone was the better option yesterday. Hopefully he his match fit soon as Jelavic is not and will never be up to the standard of the premier league.

Hopefully Hamburg get serious and act on their interest in him soon.

Agreed.

I hope we move him on before the deadline. Let someone else gamble with him. Although I feel he's just not good enough for the PL. think he'll slot for fun in germany or holland etc. Rather give kone a run of games, it all looks a bit too much like last season to me currently.

I would like to see Jela and Kone together up front.

Could only see it happening if we play 5-3-2 / 3-5-2 though.

I didn't think Jela was too bad yesterday, a lot of his movement was good in the final third. I just wish more of our players would try threading a ball to him in the box or drilling it across the face of goal a bit more. However, he keeps being perma-offside and it's unbelievably frustrating to watch.

So I suppose if one striker isn't coming up with the goods then you might want to try swapping him out.

He can´t hack it in the premiership. Too slow and too soft.

Some absolute bollocks being spouted here. He is clearly up to it because he proved that in his first season. You can't fluke what he did then. Last season he was poor but I put his loss of confidence down to the way Moyes played him, the lack of chances created for him, Fellaini playing further forward and him being out of form. Pre-season he has shown that he is capable of scoring if given the chance.

We had one chance yesterday where he probably would have scored had Fellaini been able to thread through a 10 yard ball, but for some reason, Fellaini couldn't find the pass. If Jelavic is given clear cut chances then he would score 15-20 goals a season no problem. The team also needs to do their bit in creating chances for him.

I agree him being offside a lot is frustrating though. Needs to sort himself out there.

Hope Martinez doesn't persist with Jelevic to long like Moyes did last season. Kone needs to start now and see if he can grab his chances, would sell him if we could find a buyer and get another striker in.

Reckon Kone will start next match. Wouldn´t surprise me if we worked out some kind of deal with Hamburg before this week as well with Martinez bringing a youngster in as replacement. Can´t see Jelavic being too keen to stick around. He looked absolutely miserable yesterday.

Gonna find a player I've never heard of that I'd rather have as our main striker.

Here we go. Nationalised Argentinian Slovakia international David Depetris. 86 in 135 for AS Trencin, now moved on to Turkey. 6"1, 24 years old and 18 minutes worth of video. Looks like he has nice feet, isn't really very good and can shoot wide from distance.

Classic Brownz.

In all fairness mate it looks like it was a fluke, as not only has he not been scoring in the near 50 games since, but he's been playing like an absolute horror too. No touch, no pace and absolutely no ability to fashion chances for himself.

Lets not point to his goal scoring record for Rangers either, Mo Mowlam would be prolific in Scotland.
