Nikica Jelavic

In all fairness mate it looks like it was a fluke, as not only has he not been scoring in the near 50 games since, but he's been playing like an absolute horror too. No touch, no pace and absolutely no ability to fashion chances for himself.

Lets not point to his goal scoring record for Rangers either, Mo Mowlam would be prolific in Scotland.

And his preseason goals were against whom, remind me?

Honestly amazed at the utterly fickle attitude towards Jelavic by many on here. We had a poll a couple weeks ago, was it 85% wanted Jelavic to start the Prem season as our main striker?

There's been an almost universal consensus that Osman and Mirallas were poor against WBA, that Barkley kept making the wrong decisions in attacking positions, that our build-up play was generally ponderous and that no-one in our midfield could pick out a decent pass to the front man... but it's Jelavic's fault he didn't convert the chances? Pretty harsh. It's not like he was being marked by a couple of quadriplegics, is it.

And has anyone ever considered that he's often offside because our midfielders are spotting the pass he wants a little too late? I'm not stating categorically that's the case, but it's certainly possible.

We could have had anyone you like up front yesterday, but the service up to that player would have been the same. And the service is at least PART of the problem.

the first season he had with us,was unbelievable...he did score some amazing goals...but hes lost it now, dont know wots happend, but we cant afford to wait to see if he gets his touch back..pre season he did well..i do hope he proves me wrong, but we need another striker in!

Some absolute bollocks being spouted here. He is clearly up to it because he proved that in his first season. You can't fluke what he did then. Last season he was poor but I put his loss of confidence down to the way Moyes played him, the lack of chances created for him, Fellaini playing further forward and him being out of form. Pre-season he has shown that he is capable of scoring if given the chance.

We had one chance yesterday where he probably would have scored had Fellaini been able to thread through a 10 yard ball, but for some reason, Fellaini couldn't find the pass. If Jelavic is given clear cut chances then he would score 15-20 goals a season no problem. The team also needs to do their bit in creating chances for him.

I agree him being offside a lot is frustrating though. Needs to sort himself out there.

Not really mate. He's a very poor player overall. His best asset is slotting and there's no denying on form and in the right circumstances he can slot very well BUT you need much more than that to be a consistant PL player. There are so many one season wonders out there that have gone onto nothing. Your Rooney's, RVP's, etc go through dry patches yet still offer a lot to the team. Hell even Torres still offered a lot to the team play without the goals! Jelavic seriously offers very little without goals. As for scoring against Madrid pffttt....means nothing so have hundreds of average joe's!

Not gonna say I saw this coming as such, but when he was slotting when he arrived I remember thinking he looked a poor player ability wise but honestly didn't care as his goalscoring was so good. Never thought about what would happen if he stopped scoring.

I think he could be a suprise exit before deadline.

I too have a sneaky feeling he´ll go before the end of the window. If we can get a couple of mil quid from somewhere and Martinez has a replacement in mind it´s on the cards. All he needs is to play in a league where the tempo isn´t quite as high. He´d be ace.

He's still worth 5M to the right buyers. My only annoyance will be if RM did decide to cash in then would much rather have used jellavic money and kone money together to buy arguably a more expensive better player (bony). Bent and Remy going on loan deals also disappoints me a little!

Some people can't see the wood for the trees--
Jelavic has been exceedingly poor for a while now
We can come up with excuses but vs West Brom Kone did more in his 20 minutes than Jelly did the whole game
People accuse Moyes' treatment of him, Fellaini's positioning, Even our midfielders' passing time for Jelavic being offside.

If the answer being offered by people is that "Jelavic is a natural slotter, just pass the ball to him in front of goal and he'll put them in", well firstly- that's not true. He can't get into those positions, he drifts all over, he gets offside, and when he gets the chance he mostly scuffs it.

Look at all of our nearest competitors- they all have strikers who don't need to be strangely spoonfed to get their goals. they can create too.

I love Jelly, and I would love him to do well- but more important to me is Everton doing well, and so to me I think its vital Kone starts vs Cardiff, and if we could sign up a better striker by this time next week that would be brilliant.

So for a three month period our entire squad managed to eye a pass a second earlier than usual?

Martinez needs to wise up and drop Jelevic asap to be fair. Jelevic cost us points last season.

Bloody hell I must have been watching a different game. Thought that was the best he's played in ages. Still not Falcao, like, but better*.

*better than usual, not better than Falcao.

People are forgetting that the season he did well he had Timmy behind him, Eventhough Tim wasn't scoring his positioning used to draw away defender giving Jelavic space. Jelavic never played well with Felli behind him as Felli never drew defender away from Jelavic and changed our style to suit Felli as tall target man. Jelavic needs that time and space otherwise he just panics and crocks it.

He's been alright in the two games that he's played. He's looked more likely to get a goal.

I just think Kone looks an all round much better player from the bits I've seen from him.
