Aye, but "creative midfielder" Leon Osman has two, and he earned an England call up based on his form. He's obviously been involved positively in the approach play more often than that.

Direct assists stats are decent but they don't tell the whole story, same as goal stats.

That's true. It's a guide of sorts though. Vic has 7 goals and 6 direct assists and played 10 games less than Jelavic. It tells a tale.

He could do with being taken out of the frame for two or three games but there's no way we can do that and that's down to numbers.

But Baines had three assists for the whole of last year and he was by common assent absolutely outstanding. They're just indicative as you say - someone could beat five men, lay the ball off to someone else who nudges the ball one yard for someone to smash in, and the guy who beat five men disappears from the stats completely.

Vic has played well like.

If I'm in a thread and people don't come out of it feeling like they've just read War and Peace then I haven't done my job properly FFS
Well may i say in this thread, job well done.

Anyway, does anyone think that a Vic (if fit) and Jelavic up front combo would be the way forward? Fellaini needs dropping back, especially against Stoke.

Ta.

And yes.

Howard

Baines
Distin
Jagielka
Coleman

Pienaar
Fellaini
Osman
Mirallas

Anichebe
Jelavic

I'd like to see that if all things were perfect. Some feel that Fellaini can't do the defensive midfield role properly, but it'd be nice to find out. If Phil Neville can do it for Everton then a traffic cone could, nevermind Fellaini.

Might be a very "home game" sort of side though.

I think Phil doesnt exactly physically impose himself and Fellaini obviously is far superior in footballing terms. The two up top would be a greater threat and alleviate the pressure of being the lone striker for Jelavic. We would have the physical presence of Vic without asking him to run himself into the ground.
This is all undeniable.

Imagine Leroy Fer instead of Osman in centre midfield.

I would but I have no idea what he looked like and can't for the life of me remember seeing him play.

I know there was a photo of him on a plane but someone photoshopped Purple Aki's face over it and that's basically what I associate with him now. :(

I get your point though.
