Isn't butter better for you than margarine though?

Also, healthy pancakes - no. Just no! Either do it right, or just don't do it!

Oh the butter/margarine discussion. Thorny issue. How I see it.

Advantages to butter: much better flavor. Possesses vitamins A, D, E (non added).

Downsides to butter: 80 % of fat (or 40 if you take the half full-version), mainly saturated fats (bad for your heart and arteries).

Advantages to margarine: It also has vitamins A, D, E (they add them), consists mainly out of unsaturated fats. Subject of cool EU-legislation.

Downsides to margarine: Normally also 80 % fat (unless you go minarine or such; then it's 40 or even 25).

Then you have the issue of the trans fats. You mostly find them in hard margarines (the ones you aren't able to smear well when you get them out of the fridge). They are thought to be less healthy than saturated fats. But I'm still waiting to see some more conclusive scientific evidence.

So if I was trying to lose weight. I would eat low fat margarine. After that, assuming I don't have cholesterol problems or such, I would just eat regular butter. Since well I really like the taste. Personal choice.

Concerning healthy pancakes:p. Well I admit the oatmeal variety isn't really the same, but the ones with spelt flower taste the same. And you can also call them healthy pancakes, sort of. Just don't throw loads of sugar on it. Use stevia, jam and such.

It's a great shame than in 2016 this mistruth is still being peddled.

Oh in my previous post I was just trying to prove that a healthy lifestyle isn't hard mate. You can eat loads of tasty treats. I really like pancakes and such. Making pancakes healthy is easy and they are tasty. Concerning the sickness thing; I think your changed diet had a big influence on that. I haven't been sick (flue, colds and such) since I changed lifestyle and that's like 6 years ago *knocks on wood.

My question about the mashed potatoes was purely culinary interest. Kudos for you for using margarine, I use regular butter (and to be fair quite a lot). I really enjoy quality mashed potatoes. Hmm. I also really enjoy mattetaarten (around 450 calories very little useful nutrients; http://www.geraardsbergen.be/upload/Stad_Geraardsbergen/AA FOTO ALGEMEEN/toerisme/mattentaarten.jpg) from time to time.

I don't believe in forcing strict diets upon people, people should be able to do what they want. I do encourage people to have a healthy fun lifestyle.

Anyway I think you're doing good. I believe you're serious about this. How much weight have you lost already?
About 2 and a half stone in 7 weeks. Think I'm slowing down a bit as it is harder to be so extreme as I was in the start. As long as I lose every week then I take it as a good thing haha

Oh fat discussions. Heard similar things. But don't you think it's safer to wait for a medical consensus? Don't want to argue or such. I just find it to be quite easy to avoid eating too much of it. I am risk averse and all that. I've always found the entire subject to be sort of sketchy (heart/saturated fats); no definite links and so.

I admit the evidence seems quite convincing but at the same time I think: other authoritative bodies say different things. Pff. I'll edit the post though, thank you. Hmm I can't.

I guess a little update.

Fully expect this week to be the first time i have gained weight. Just one of those weeks where things didn't really have a plan and i went day to day not eating perfectly. Ordered in a couple of times (payweek plus only having enough to feed kids and sister in laws sat night with what i bought) and yeah, not over indulged myself but certainly have not fully dieted.

but i did have a little boost yesterday, tried some 38 pants on in asda shopping and they fit me! well i wouldn't sit down in them or anything, but hopefully that is a little kick up the arse that i am very close to getting down to 36 inch pants, if i stop thinking in terms of pounds and just think about inches then it might change my outlook. 4 weeks left to lose probably 3-4 inches off my waist? Is it possible?

But yeah, will report back later with weigh in results, but don't expect good news this week, anything below 2 pounds gain and i will be satisfied.

Copied all that for possibly planning a diet out cheers.

I don't make a salad in the morning because i don't have time to. Between getting myself awake for the day, shower/bathed and dressed, and making my sons packed lunch at the same time i just haven't got the time to make it. And i wouldn't be arsed making it 5 times the night before. Me getting the fish and bags are me already removing myself from subway as an alternative so essentially following advice and trying to be healthier in my lunch (fish was also recommended to me over carbs)

Oh yeah, went shopping yesterday and some meal ideas, got fish for a night. Bought some Quorn Mince over real mince for a protein based meal rather than fatty, curry again, and something else which has slipped my mind right now (also box of chicken steak thingas but they are back up).

So again i am listening to advice, @COYBL25 told you i would take the suggestion on board ;)

Yup Quorn is really good - My wife is a veggie so I tend to eat a lot of it. Great for curries and Chili

Yeah, have no intention of swapping out most of my meats but for things like quorn in spag bol isn't really an issue for me. Happy to do it as you won't tell the difference once it is has sauce mixed in and potentially some broccoli.
