haha she isn't a feeder or anything, she supports me and is eating what i'm eating in the house mostly so she will be getting some benefit herself as well.

she knows i'm just losing weight for me, consdering what triggered me off into wanting to. `so yeah, she doesn't force me to eat anything and certainly maintains the same foods in the house so she isn't cooking me chips when she knows i'd prefer a bag of veg.

hello mate - how much does a bag of salad cost? Arent you better off buying fresh veg and chopping it up? think its about £1.50 a bag in Asda. You can get a shed load of mixed salad for the week for less than £1.50 a day (assuming that's what you're doing).

also have you set a plan? I stuck a 3month plan for half marathon on my fridge so I'm increasing running gradually, mixing up a bit and have targets. Sounds a little regimented but its not. Helped me anyway,

pound a bag mate.

It isn't the cheapest option but its easier for me in the mornings to sort out. As subway ones (for a similar price) has been judged to be not worth getting then this is the next best thing. So i know its mainly just lettuce and the tin of fish i have added.

But don't get me wrong, i would prefer to make them myself, stick some onion, spring onion, sweetcorn and stuff in it. But most of the time i have like 2 minutes in the morning and i'm making my sons lunch at the same time haha so one battle at a time, least i'm cutting out the subway salad and having more basic ones.

not as of yet. I have a target weight and a target time to hit and be better off. Plus i have a pair of pants that are too small for me, but once i fit into them i know i'm making progress.

I know it isn't a set thing but its just because i never intended to just do a set time, i had a target sure but i wont stop eating the way i am, just refine it in the future so i can eat a butty if i want to for lunch and not feel guilty.

fair enough mate. Its good you're making the effort. Its a gradual process. Good luck

I refuse to believe that subways salads are the same price as bags of salad from asda.

Salad plus tin of fish give or take. Salad a quid and fish ranges from 50p to 1.50
Yeah but I bet you don't get a whole bag of salad in a subway. An asda salad bag should make at least 2 meals if you're adding fish.

No high street food retailer is going to sell any produce at the same price & quantity as buying it from the supermarket. You're going to lose out on one or the other.

well.......

the fish will be microwaved haha but its only 150 cals per fish. Not quite using fresh fish just yet although we oven cook it in its own juices when we do pick it up.

As for the pasta, i'll probably pick some of that up when i get paid yeah cheers. the pasta i did get was 29p so wasn't shopping for anything other than cheap haha

I think overall i am trying not to punish myself though. Seems there is always a cut back or alternative and what not to eat etc and im trying to move away from that. for arguments sake i avoid jacket potatoes for lunch, simply because someone told me it was full of carbs. Yet someone else eating a potato for lunch would be seen as eating healthy? lol

Just generally i am trying to refine what i'm doing, im not eating or drinking stuff i shouldn't and not loading up on fast food or even cooking out the freezer hardly these days including easy quick meals so even if i only drop to about 2 pounds off a week as it stands, still steady progress until december (the new target). Hell only thing that gets microwaved in my diet is the veg or the porridge. I just don't want to make myself hate what i'm doing if that makes sense. Eating the fish and lettuce today it was crap i'll admit. but least i can go home and have the fish in butter sauce. Its not A1 perfect being frozen and microwave cooked but its still better than alternatives and it means i can still enjoy things as a result

White pasta is a no no Ash, full of empty carbs and processed to death. Wholemeal pasta is more expensive, but much healthier mate.

I like to use most of the bag if it's just lettuce just to fill me up lol but the fish is a tins worth so not loads if that.

You wouod he surprised how much subway gives you salad wise. In fact they are cheap on the toppings instead haha but certainly enough for one of your 5 a day

Yeah I remember being told that when I started this so rarely do eat pasta. It was a cheap tea as we were shopping on a budget this week so that's why we picked them up.

Will go with the wholemeal pasta in future when doing a bigger shop. Same reason I don't have jacket potatoes too often.

Oh I don't have a problem with the microwaving of the fish or such. I assume; the fish is inside a little plastic bag so all the juices land inside that thing. Frozen fish isn't bad. Most fish are flash-frozen now anyway; so you don't really lose any nutrients or such. In general the taste of fresh fish is better though, not that I really mind. As long as you don't buy fish which has been heavily treated with salt and such everything is good. My issue was more with the butter sauce; I think 1 spoon of butter sauce contains 70 calories or such.

I suggested the steaming cause it's easy and lazy. Just fill up the water in your steamer (steam oven etc); you wait a bit. Meal finished.

Concerning pasta. Whole-weat pasta is the most healthy option. But in the event, I doubt it will be the case but you never know, you don't really like the taste of it buy spelt pasta. This is also a healthier variety and tastes almost the same as regular one. I really like spelt. You can buy pasta in large quantities. It's cheaper that way and it lasts long; approximately 2 years, but even after two years it's still edible. At the moment I think I possess enough pasta to feed my entire street. I also like all the varieties; cappellini (my favorite), fusili, linguine, taglierini, penne ... You can also make it yourself but it only lasts around five days and it's a horrible job.

I like potatoes; they are part of a healthy diet. It think the problem with a jacked potato isn't the carbs. Out of curiosity; how do you make your mashed potatoes? Potatoes, milk, egg, spices, butter?

I think none of us are trying to push you towards a lifestyle that you don't want. Most are just giving small helpful tips. At the end of the day you eating healthy would result in you having more energy (and you having more energy, means that you do more so you use more energy and are able to eat more) for all your endeavors (like toilet seats), and off course you being healthy. The problem is; now that you're still in the process of losing weight you have to be quite strict about it. Afterwards you can cheat from time to time. Plus you get to know your body more. You sort of know how it will react at excesses and how much your body consumes on a normal working day (without exercise and such). So you can adjust your eating accordingly. Also once you have mastered the healthy alternatives; it's quite easy. Plus this way you take in all the nutrients your body needs, which is also a good long term investment. I also see you're using something like myfitnesspall; that can sort of become a second nature. You start to know the calorie value of everything by heart.

Also you just want to lose some weight to become healthy; it's not like you require difficult sporting diets and such. It's actually quite simple; for the moment eat a bit less than what your body requires; but don't eat too little so you won't start blowing up the moment you start to eat normally again. The latter scenario would be most unfortunate; and quite expensive new clothes and all.

Anyway, you're doing good and in the end your extra changes will be worth it. In the end you won't even have to think about your healthy alternatives and it most certainly won't feel like you're punishing yourself.

That is the plan mate yeah. Want to have this mindset in place so i'm not resorting to type and just be able to eat as normal again. Things like i'm eating an apple right now, probably be a general morning snack for me in the future as well as i know it gets me 3 of my 5 a day for around 80p or under a day. Less if i pre buy my fruit for the week. when it comes to lunches i want to eat butties and a pack of crisps, right now i know i cant but be nice if eating a butty isnt deemed as an unhealthy lunch (obviously within reason). These are the changes that i wanted to make long term. I have veg with every meal i can do, including spag bol. So conciously if i know right ok, 3 fruit throughout the day, veg of a night, guaranteed 4 of my 5 a day every day, which in turn helps me. Sounds silly but everyone bar me in the house got sick this week, i'm wondering if all the fruit and veg over two months have had that effect on me?

It is all changing perspective, because my eating habits were lazy before. I can spend the same on a oven cooked meal before that i do cooking a fresher meal now. The difference is one is much healthier for me.

As for mash, i do put some marge in it for flavour but only eat a small amount of it. so for arguments sake last night there was more veg than mash on the plate. What i have tried to do all along, eat similar meals but less of it, so half plates if i'm eating something that isn't 100% healthy compared to what i have before.

In terms of tips on here, said it many times i listen to any advice given to me. dont eat carbs for lunch, so i eat fish instead. Eat breakfast/porridge, so i do. don't get subway salads, so gone out my way past couple of weeks to make sure i have fresh salad bags instead. I own a set of (admittedly crap) scales because it was suggested i keep track of my weight. I listen to any advice given to me and implement it the best way i can, because if i didnt then i would still be eating things thinking they are healthy when they actually weren't as healthy as i thought. So i appreciate any help on here, half the point of this thread running so long tbh.

Some may believe me and some might not that i am serious with all of this. They have said as much on here lol But my normal daily intake involves
  • minimim 4 of my 5 a day. Up from 0-1 from before
  • Drinking nothing but water and green tea, compared to coke and stuff before and mimumum water intake
  • Eating smaller meals than before
  • Eating more fish than before
  • count on one hand how many chocolate and crisps i have had in 2 months, compared to daily
  • Lunches are now salads, before they were meal deals with a packet of crisps
  • Minimal sugar, carbs, pasta compared to before.

I mean overall, how much more can i genuinely change ? lol

You get the kettlebells?

To me, all you need to get right is choosing the correct exercise program for weight loss and cardio.
