Think Moyes had pretty much a zero net spend over his entire tenure. He gifted Martinez a very solid side that had qualified for Europe several times, but with the added benefit of a Lukaku..... a real luxury that was rarely afforded to Moyes during his entire time. However, despite this, within 2 seasons, the cracks were already appearing.

IIRC, the savings were made at the latter end of his time here after Kenwright conducted a fire sale in the aftermath of the 2009 FA Cup final appearance: Lescott sold and then Arteta, without any of the proceeds being ploughed back into spending, as had previously happened. The squad got older and that's the one handed onto Martinez: 'solid' probably the right word to use in relation to them.

Moyes had the chance to bring in his own Lukaku - he broke the club transfer record a few times while here with the cash spent on Beattie, Johnson, Yakubu, Fellaini (and a wasted £10M on Bilyaletdinov in the middle of all that too too).

He had sell to buy up to a certain point, then he had just 'sell'. But he got to reinvest a lot of the cash brought in from the sales of Rooney and Johnson and a lot of smaller deals done prior to 2009, as opposed to the sales of Lescott, Rodwell, Arteta.

Lukaku was a massive lay out for Everton, but still dwarfed in terms of cost of top prices of the same period: Di Maria went to United for about £55M, Ozil to Arsenal for £42M; Torres to Chelsea for £50M.

Indeed, you can. Dom and Fiona know the owners well (Dom even told them about the premises), and it's a mutually beneficial relationship.

Castros is very popular (the food is fantastic!), whilst the Denbigh is very popular, but it doesn't do food. People go to one and can then also enjoy the other.

Sales for all games generally will be very good because we have a loyal and large fan base, that’s not in doubt. I think our attendances are quite remarkable given the circumstances, that’s kind of my point. I’m just not sure that we realistically have tens of thousands of additional people who would be turning up if tickets were marginally cheaper. Obviously there’s always going to be an issue between what your average person in the street thinks is ‘reasonable’ and what passes as reasonable in a corporate context. I still struggle to get my head round it being more than a fiver for a pint in my local but he’s not going to put his prices down because that’s just what the cost is these days. The same applies with the match, I’m sure there’s the potential to slightly reduce costs but it’s not going to be by a massive amount because that’s just how much it costs to see PL football these days, and I’m not sure the difference between £60 and £70 tickets is the deciding factor on whether people turn up personally.

I agree that the difference between a £60 and £70 ticket is marginal. It's what your turning up to watch is a major factor for me and the value of it.

I think Moyes was unlucky that Johnson and Yakubu both got injured at critical times and were never the same.
Peak Yakubu was the equivalent of Lukaku iMHO and had a 1 in 2 goal to game ratio.
Andy Johnson lost a bit of pace with his knee injury.

Who knows what would have happened if we had Jagielka,Arteta and Yakubu playing in the 2009 FA Cup final. A win there changes the trajectory of the club and probably keeps players at the club.

Agree! Around £40 a seat is a right price. £60 and £70 to watch a mediocre side is a rip off. AND that's without travel expenses.
