it takes me back to times when we had the likes of Bobby Collins in the middle. As for likening him to Roy Keane, I made that comparison about 20 pages ago.

haha never doubted besic since his first touch was a perfect assist for deigo costa.

Glad to see he is getting more and more plaudits now.

He was here last season, he's hardly played since then so don't say he's improved, he's just not been given a chance by Martinez.

He replaced Barry for 6 or 7 games last season and grew in every game, only to be dropped again once Barry was fit, and Barry was pants last season.

vs QPR, Besic and Barkley bossed the granny out of them, Barton actually patted him on the back after that tackle.

"I got this Leighton lid..."

I could see he was the best DM at this club after he played a couple of games, technically, he is way ahead of McCarthy.

He only replaced Barry in two games (West Ham when Barry had his ankle injury) and QPR when Barry had a suspension, the rest of the run of games he had from early November to March he was filling in for McCarthy who played well on his return, the United game being a particular highlight.

Perhaps Mo should in April/May been rotated more with Barry but Gareth had also improved as the games weren't coming as frequently and he'd fully recovered from his ankle injury - his really bad spell was in December when he'd been rushed back as we had no-one else other than Mo as Gibson/McCarthy/Osman were all injured.

Besic started 20 games last season which was probably more than he expected his first year, pity about his injuries early on this season but hopefully those are behind him and he'll get a run of games again.

This guy is so highly rated by our fans and I can finally see why.

He seems to embody the spirit of the crowd to be fair. He gets stuck in, tries to push the play forward, gets in the oppositions faces, and gives out stick or praise to players as and when required.

Probably sounds daft but for so long we've been sitting watching a team full of 'Mr Nice Guys' and Goodison needs a few challenges and snarls to really get going.

Yeah exactly, can't believe all the other players made at most 1 tackle each during the whole game.
According to Whoscored Barry made 2, which is less than his usual number of 4 although he did make 2 clearances and 2 interceptions compared to Besic's 1 interception and 0 clearances and 1 blocked shot.

Osman also made 2 tackles!

Seemed to be a tactic to let Besic do the initial midfield tackling and then Barry cover to mop up any strays, worked well.
