Fact is Barry needs a younger player with legs to help him out, and we can only have two in there, imagine how fast we'd get the ball back and close down in midfield if you have two tigers like McCarthy and Besic working as a unit.

Martinez will never drop Barry, ever, he's his favorite player in the squad.

Dropping Barry and Kone, bringing in Besic and replacing Kone with either Cleverley or Lennon/Mirallas would transform this team onto a whole new level.

A midfield defensive two from Cleverley/Besic/McCarthy would be a step forward for sure, a balanced team with fierce ball winning abilities in the middle and great attacking flair upfront.

Never going to happen though, Martinez has his favorites and won't budge for the good of the team.

We could try a 4-3-3:
Lukaku
Barkley Gerry
Besic McCarthy
Barry
Baines-Jags-Stones-Coleman

Conjecture.

Barry, aside from probably Rom, has been our most important and consistent player this season. 'He needs dropping' is nonsense. A rest maybe, yes. But he's one of the first names on the teamsheet right now and rightly so.

You'd think he'd need a rest, given his age and the amount he's played, but his performances seem to suggest he's fine! I'd definitely rest him at the weekend though. But that's just because I'd be furious if any of our key players were tired or even injured for the City game because of weak league 2 opposition.

People who actually watched him play.
