I'd prefer Lukaku to be doing what he's done lately and be a benefit to the overall side and score half the goals, than do nothing of note for 90 minutes but pop his toe on the end of one chance.

That's my personal preference in a striker. Right now, Lukaku is brilliant in my eyes not because of the goals, but because of how effective he is for the team from start to finish.

Last season, there was none of that.

But this is a Besic thread - the same thing applies. He's been absolutely top drawer for the last one and a bit games, but I want to see that consistently, that's all. Apparently, that observation is offensive to you for some reason.

Holding players and the manager to a standard you know they are capable of is not looked upon well on here. Apparently if you think they are capable of more and are underperforming you don't believe in them and want them out. Unless you mindlessly happy clap everyone and everything you're not behind the team and players.

Of course everyone could see what Lukaku was capable of. Even last season in rank form he hit 10 goals. Saying 'he can do better, he's in bad form' apparently opens you up to vaulting when he improves his form and does better, 'you never wanted him lad, you didn't believe in him etc.' Very very odd behaviour.

Fortunately there should be no such problem with Besic as I can't remember one bad performance he's had for us. In this case though there genuinely were people saying he wasn't good enough for the prem after a string of motm performances followed by him being dropped for a half fit McCarthy.

Nothing better than walking into a bar full of Liverpool shirts abroad and shouting "how many scouse accents are in here right now lads?" and watching them squirm for a reply.

I do it often.

Well actually, I get this as well, not being a scouser. I have mumbled "yes, clearly I'm a glory hunter" and "how many scouse accents in the Everton team?" a few times. Be kind to your fellow blues :)

He wasn't showing it. Everyone can have potential, not everyone realises it - that's why you have the Ravel Morrison's of this world.

I'm not one for jumping on a Kopite-esque hype train before I see proof in front of my eyes. A player is good when he is showing he is good, not a moment before.

Besic needs to do what he has done lately week in, week out. That's the same for every player, including Lukaku. Why is that unreasonable?
Hes had a 1 in 2 goal ratio since he came out the womb, as a striker, thats showing it

Conjecture.

Barry, aside from probably Rom, has been our most important and consistent player this season. 'He needs dropping' is nonsense. A rest maybe, yes. But he's one of the first names on the teamsheet right now and rightly so.

I agree with this and I'll be the first to admit I gave Barry a fair bit of stick last season. He's been boss recently. Besic alongside him looks a good pairing

Oh lid what have you done? Positioning yourself with @Tubey is a severe tactical error on here.

Regarding Besic not having one bad game I assume this was the first ever Carling Cup tie you've seen Everton play in?

If anyone doubted Lukaku then it just shows that they're one of the over critical hanks who need to swerve the over analysis and just watch the game a bit more.

Many lids tried to talk sense to the Lukaku detractors at the time but they wouldn't have it.

Them chickens coming home to roost now boy.

I often come across your work in the vaults and kick myself as i can't vault you are you're a very reasonable human being and therefore I have no reason to mock thee.

Back on topic, still not got over his performance the other night. For me performance of the season so far and one of the best I've seen from a central midfielder since the days of Arteta in his pomp (although different types of players).

Now you're corning me you swine.

Lids can we tone a down a bit on Besic. It's more kopite than harming away fans and blaming someone else.

Has all the ingredients to be loved by the lids because he snarls, tackles and is over dramatic with his gestures to show he has MEGA passion.

Great game against Man City, needs to build on it.

Prior to which, I thought his decision making was suspect in that he needed more time on the ball than afforded. I think that's why Martinez managed his game time to develop that aspect of the game - probably would have benefited from an immediate loan.

Has potential, but lets not get too carried away yet.

When you've got your own opinion and aren't bothered about being vaulted then you don't have to worry about 'positioning' yourself with anyone.

Over critical of a 30 mill signing? Theres a difference between being critical and doubting which too many people seem incapable to grasp.

I presume regarding Besic you're bringing up the Barnsley game and are basing that on Dithering Doug's hatchet job in him. The Barnsley fan on here actually thought he bossed the game before Martinez hooked him unfairly. I can't remember him having a bad game last season, a few bad moments (Chelsea showboating) but whenever he comes on he looks more commuted and technically proficient than any of our other midfielders, in terms of imposing your presence on an opposition midfield I don't think anyone in the squad can touch Besic.

We've not seen enough of him to know that mate. Of course I hope you're right.

Can't wait for his run of games where he's absolutely boss only to be dropped for Cleverley or McCarthy then all the lids on here to start the revisionist job next season again 'he was inexperienced, rash, a walking red card etc.'
