I think Besic will be good...but he's not top XI yet. If RM subs into a 4-3-3 then I'd want to see Gibbo or Besic but I know we'll see Osman.
Rather Stones than Besic.
Although it's our back line that is getting all the stick, the reality is that it's the combination of the back four and the defensive midfielders that's not right. I rate Besic, albeit on limited evidence in a blue shirt. For the derby I'd put him in between McCarthy and Barry in a defensive midfield three that would provide added protection for the back four. With Mirallas, Naismith and Eto'o buzzing around interchangeably in front of them we might even get something from the game.
At least he wouldn't be going in to the game with the mental baggage of most of the squad built up from our string of pathetic derby performances and defeats in the last 5 years or more. The mental battering they've taken is still the major factor going against our doing anything tomorrow. You'd put Besic in for the derby?
Really now? Come on.
Absolutely. Also the notion that we shouldn't play younger players in the derby as well "in case we get battered" is as if we are on some sort of good run against them. Things need shaking up and for the record I'm made up we finally have some bite in the middle after years of some of the most passive midfield displays known to man against really poor Liverpool sides. It's for that reason that I miss Cahill. At least he wouldn't be going in to the game with the mental baggage of most of the squad built up from our string of pathetic derby performances and defeats in the last 5 years or more. As for this notion that he'd be sent off -- where's all that come from? Any ball winner carries a greater risk of this, naturally. Frankly, I'd rather we had someone in the side who'd match fire with fire in Anfield derbies rather than be a wallflower and stand aside as we get steamrollered once again.

My favourite Besic moment so far was against Swansea. He went through someone and gave away a clear foul, instead of stopping he used his fallen opponents throat as leverage to try and go through someone else. Brought a tear to my eye that.
