Moyes' Contract Dithering

I am starting to toy with the opinion that Moyes' apparent reluctance to sign a new contract at present is actually hindering our efforts at getting players in. Think about it: any player worth their salt will want some degree of security that the manager that signs them will at least be around for a season or two.

The uncertainty, nonetheless, has actually worked against Moyes as I suspect a lot of fans are starting to lose patience with him. Not getting ANY new signings in considering we have only TEN fit senior players is nothing short of scandalous, particularly when you consider it took Yakubu & Pienaar 2 whole months to settle at the club having joined near the deadline.

Our season could rapidly descend into farce & it will take a major effort & no further injuries from a threadbare squad to avoid dropping out of contention with the pacesetters among the UEFA Cup contenders. The league is getting more & more competitive each season so 2 months squandered lost ground could take seasons to recoup.

....would you sign a contract when your constantly getting let down by the people that hold the purse strings ???

Hold on a minute.

What other club of a similar stature to ourselves or better do you think Moyes could get a job at? & what annual budget do you think he could expect (ours is currently in or around £20m a season)?

Of course it's fair to say that Moyes has exhalted the club to its current status, but have we not offered him a contract of a whopping £60k per week?

WHAT THE [Poor language removed] IS HE DITHERING FOR?????

He didn't say he would, or that Moyes should. He merely pointed out that the "dithering" on the contract would almost certainly have an effect on whether people want to sign for us. That is, imagine you're closing in on Moutinho. Talks are at an advanced stage, you're telling him what a great club it is, with fantastic fans and a lovely chairman. "So," says Moutinho, "how come you've not signed yet?" It doesn't bode well, does it?

Moyes has said that hes waiting to see what happens before he signs and hinted that players coming in may be a factor, so i reckon his reply was:

"I'll sign if you sign"

Erm, If I went for a job and the interviewer would only continue towork for the company if I chose to come on onboard I would be concerned about the long-term future of it (although, of course, quietly pleased that I was held in such high regard!).

Moyes will walk

I believe he will walk...soon and I don't blame him, the club hasn't back him...we should have been signing players in June & July...not at the end of August..maybe he has took Everton as far as he can with the resources available..think we need to face facts we won't be signing anyone now...and for a team that finished 5th last season...the word FARCE springs to mind !!!

I suppose its done his reputation as a 'ditherer' no good considering he has kept saying he's close to signing for months now, yet still hasnt done so.

But we know things have gone on over the summer that we dont have all the details about and its clear he's not happy with the situation either, so you cant really blame him for looking after his own career if the board are not showing a clear direction in which their taking the club.

It was a joke, im bored of the speculation to be honest. Is moyes dithering on transfers or has he just not got the cash? Is moyes lack of signing affecting transfers? Is the lack of transfers affecting Moyes signing? Has every agent in Europe screwed us over? Has Kirkby affected the cash for transfers? Has Kirkby put potential signings off? Has Kirkby in some way affected Moyes decision to stay? Has Bill Kenwright [Poor language removed] Mrs Moyes?

Basically any of these could be true or it could turn out to be something far less sinister such as Moyes is trying to get every last penny out of BK for his contract, or he just genuinely hasnt had time to look at it and sort out a few details that are pressing him.

We can go on and on evaluating every possible (or impossible) theory and maybe even agree(doubtful) that there is only one plausible explanation for everything thats happened, and it still wont make any of us any happier because we wont know the truth until its actually made official. Its [Poor language removed] but lets be honest its the truth and i dont think us talking about it constantly is really making anyone feel any better

I think the whole term 'the club hasnt backed him' is thrown around quite a lot but is not entirely accurate. They have backed him in the sense that they've, as far we we know, have offered him a very generous contract and have given him a certain amount of money to spend.

At the end of the day you can only give the manager the money that is available and you only need to look at Evertons accounts to see that there is very little profit left at the end of the year to be ploughed back into transfers. But that is the same as every club, it just seems right now every club is gambling and borrowing money to fund transfers.

I bet that's it. Old Bill has still got the charm where the ladies are concerned.

I take ya point, but...........why did the club allow Carsley & AJ leave if there is little money to spend...as i said FARCE...springs to mind.

Your right he won't get a job in the so called top 4....but if we carry on like we are with no investment, how long will it be before were on page 2/2 on ceefax again.....!!

We had to let Carsley go really, we offered him a one year deal which he turned down. At his age he has to look after his career and he needs more job security than a year. We cant really go forward offering him a longer deal given his ability and age, especially in view of moving the club forward and the cost when we should be able to get someone younger and better in for the money available which even if we had little should still be enough.

AJ was good business we made money on him and he didnt really fit into the current team, let alone the view of going further. What would be the point in keeping him when we have little use for him when we can get 10mil and use it to get someone who will make a difference. We seem intent on playing 4-5-1 and even with the effort he put in he wasnt an out an out poacher like yakubu and he wasnt creative enough to play behind him. Basically thanks for all you're help but £10mil is better than you sitting on the bench.

Everyone is saying the summer has been a farce but we dont know all the facts and to be honest we cant comment. Until we find out:

1. How much money was available for transfers
2. Who we went for in the market and what was offered etc
3. Why any deals we put forward were rejected

we cant comment on whether Everton have performed badly, whether it was the board or moyes, or just been ridiculously unlucky. I'm sorry but stomping around saying that we have been farcical/disgraceful etc is throwing toys out of the pram well before we have been given answers.

I'm not gettin at you mate loads of people are sayin stuff like this and its understandable, we get told [Poor language removed] all and are told to wait and see what happens. Its frustrating to all of us but we cant really start blaming moyes/the board/the club before we know whats really happened. I just hope sooner or later they tell us something
