Soz mate but Jeff Beck meh?...my favourite out of the 3, by a short head from Eric. His stuff with Rod Stewart and his solo albums encompass a wide variety of genres and styles. Good shout for the Yardbirds though...think their personnel changes didnt allow them consistent success over here but it was noticeable that Mr Page called the embryonic Led Zeppelin "The New Yardbirds"

Jeff Beck was a terrific guitarist, no argument there. But as an artist in his own right? Couldnt write a sausage. If your high point is High Ho Silver Lining, heaven only knows what the low point is.

And yeah, The New Yardbirds was the plan, which chimes with the mileage they might have got in Merica, less so in the UK. Keith Moon coined the Le(a)d Zeppelin name, so goes the legend.

Are they stark and haunting arrangements sounding a bit like Nick Drake and John Lennon had a baby? Soz @COYBL25 that Bowie song wasn't my cuppa.

In fact it might be sinful but I might have to rate him on the other thread. Can't think of a song I like.

Not a Bowie song you like? Not the hugest fan myself but he was super talented with huge range. My faves are Let’s Dance and Modern Love, hard to fathom not liking these if you are into 80s tracks at all.

Hi Ho Silver Lining? Arrrgggghhhhh!!! Truth and Beck-Ola (Rod Stewart), and "Wired" plus "Blow by Blow" '70s showcased his talent. Probably more of a "guitarist's guitarist" and played with many top notch bands and artists during his long carreer

Truth was critically acclaimed, granted. And yeah, he was deffo a guitarists guitarist. No shame in that.

But a bit like Rye Cooder and Nils Lofgren, he was a musician, but not much of a sustained song writer.

The answer is The Yardbirds.

Clapton, Page and Beck, (bit meh him mind), and hugely recognised in Merica as being important.

Less so over here.

How can Queen be classed as underrated?

Split here trying to think about who fits the criteria of underated. Either this is undiscovered (or close) like Elliot Smith (good shout) or fabulous but no longer rated for who they are (I’ll suggest Beach Boys probably fit) or some mix of grandeur without due recognition, to which I’ll submit three for consideration: Kinks, Talking Heads, Sonic Youth.

Also, some weird shouts in this thread.

I was going to say Badly drawn boy. But after recalling a very shambolic live set at the Melkweg in Amsterdam where Damon actually fell asleep on stage and the band played on to the end of the song before getting off, leaving Damon still snoozing in the corner. I withdraw my initial thought.
