More than a little surprised.

No shame in operating in the loans market when you get players like lukaku in. His goals could make our season if he hits form. Look at AC Milan. They bring in loans on a regular basis. The key is to consistently bring in one or two good loans a season and buy quality when we can. The squad is definitely stronger now.

i was a little more than surprized when i had a look at the stats on WhoScored and discovered that Everton is rated amongst the top 20 (at nr 16) of all clubs in Europe - possession ,pass rate etc.
Martinez is obviously doing something right which also impresses managers from super clubs entrusting their precious "babies" to Everton on loan

It's calypso, sun on your back football. Everton the pass masters putting a smile back on the continent's face.

Thank God we got rid of that footballing Visigoth Moyes.

Undoubtedly a stronger set up now but more importantly the likes of Lukaku and Delboy would never be here under the dithering person the whole change is more positive and forward thinking, it's like a rotting fish carcase stinking up the place has been removed and the place disinfected.

Judging by the Utd blockheads words if SAF had called Baines as well as Felli would have went for 20p (to "improve their careers") and we would have re-signed McFadden and talked Neville into one last hurrah.

In 11 years he did no more and no less than you would expect in the transfer market this idea it is a gift of mystical proportions spotting a player is bollocks put 10 supporters together to watch 10 separate games and there will be a consensus of who is and isn't a decent player.

Moyes problem was he struggled to land his targets and quite often didn't know what to do when he did get them......

.........

..........

Even home grown gifts -Barkley.

Nothing like successive 0-0 draws to get the blood pumping.

What are your minimum expectations for Everton now then?

70+ points, 60 odd league goals scored?

To see the club go forward with purpose, to inspire hope and raise our supporters spirits, play football and compete against all comers in every game home and away.

Statistical measure in a season of such transition is a vehicle for those wanting to say "Moyes was 6th/7th/8th (delete as per your bias) against our new manager - simply not interested in such games.

Logic would say that it will be difficult to finish top 8 this season given the players the clubs around us have added. That being said, if lukaku, Barry and McCarthy not to mention barkley improve our team then it's not beyond the realms of possibility. We still have a formidable back 4 and a decent goalie which aren't to be sniffed at.

What we needed vs what we got???

Lets see, when the season ended and we as fans took stock I think most on here were in agreement of what we needed, where the season and who fell short.

Howard needed compitition
Heitinga wasn't good enough as back up
Neville was finished
Osman shouldn't be relied on as a CM week in week out
We needed another winger/Naismith not good enough
We needed a proper No.10 with a goal threat
We lacked a top notch striker.

Well looking at our business, I'd say we'v done our best to solve all those problems.

Robles brought in who does offer clear compitition to Howard
Heitinga still here, but with alcaraz and stones we have 2 better defenders to select from.
Neville has been replaced with the younger and better Barry, who will offer the proffessionalism Neville was renowned for.
With Mcarthy and Barry coming in along with Gibson, Osman should very rarely be required in CM.
we'v added another winger in the form of a barca wonder kid, and Naismith looks average instead of disastrous.
We'v promoted from whithin and come up with a superb No.10 in Barkley (so exciting)
And to top it off albeit a loan, we'v added a top top striker who scores goals.

I really think as fans we'v got to be thrilled at the summers activities. Everyone obviously may have different views on the actual players they may have liked coming in but we'v addressed all the problems we had, some short term some long term and this IMO IS the best squad we'v had for 10 yrs.

Im with the OP - im hugely impressed with Roberto and how he has managed this window, in fact im a bit Dizzy with the amount of sensible, logical signings we made.

The next step is developing the consistency that we have come to expect and actuallybe competitive for the higher league places. I think we need to patient while he implements a new philosphey though, not just on the pitch either.
