More than a little surprised.

Lukakua I have heard we can sign him at the end of the season
Delafeuo Could have another loan spell with us
Barry Free Agent come the summer may stay with us if manager likes him/can sort wages

Thing about Lukaku is he desperately wants to succeed at Chelsea. Even if Chelsea were willing to sell him, it could be a tough sell getting him to come here permanently.

Totally agree that he wants to succeed at chelsea, and strangely its the one glimmer of hope of getting him, if he thinks that he will be always third choice as they bring in 30m pound strikers etc, then theirs the chance he may move permanently to somewhere that he can fully develop for 2-3 years before getting sold back their ;p

far fetched at best but probably the only chance of getting him permanently here

For what its worth, everything i've seen about him and his interviews, peoples opinions who know him etc, i don't think i have ever liked a player arriving more purely based on being a top top lid, pure quality person with character and a ethic very rarely seen in any sportsman

That's completely invalidated by the fact that we took around £33 million in fees. With a net spend of -£13 million you think it would be pretty hard not to improve the squad?

We got that money from 2 player sales. One was nowhere near the current team and one was performing within himself and over the last 9 months hasn't been performing anything like £27.5m. £20m odd? Yeah, I reckon a manager could improve us short-term from there. Especially if he's going to use three loan deals.

In the same breath, we could be getting a bit over-excited and presuming all our signings will work out. We've spent the best part of £20m on McCarthy and Kone - there's plenty that can go wrong yet.

But obviously we've got poster after poster posting thread after thread after thread after thread about how much of a laughing stock Moyes is, how terrible he's doing, how much better off we are without him. I'm starting to think some were more in love with him than they let on and are having trouble letting go tbh. It could so easily come back to bite us all on the arse ffs, not to mention the fact half of what's being said is utter, utter bullshine.

At the end of this season Chelsea will sign Rooney(who will be about to enter the last twelve months of his contract at that time).
I would not be surprised if Lukaku does not have a long term future at Chelsea, what are they waiting for ? He is already physically strong and mature, has premiership experience and a good goalscoring record.
s very
They signed an ageing Eto'o , have a useless Torres and Ba who hasn't ever been given a fair chance at Chelsea. I thought this was going to be Lukaku's year at Stamford Bridge.

But,let's all wait and see what he does for Everton before we contemplate anything, but at the moment it's very exciting.

Too much is being made of having players like the lad from Barca and not playing him regularly. If his presence makes peinaar,Barkley and Mirallas play better then its worth having him here. If they dont step up then he is in the team and we benefit from his talent and the exposure it gives our club to Barca fans the world over. We cant lose.

I'm not totally convinced by either player yet. Maybe McCarthy is the next big thing and in a couple of years the CL clubs will come knocking and £12m will look like a bargain? The important thing is that Martinez knows him better than anyone and how good he could be, which mitigates a lot of the risk.

We did lack strength in depth. We might have needed to make use of the loan system to achieve it but I don't have a problem with that. I'm actually impressed that Martinez has the contacts, the charm and the credibility to pull some of these deals off.

I think a lot of the ire has come from how Moyes has treated Everton and how the media have written us off. Maybe there's a mood at the club to show that the ex-manager and Fellaini weren't all that was good about the club and that, not only will be get over their loss, but we'll be stronger afterwards.

i was a little more than surprized when i had a look at the stats on WhoScored and discovered that Everton is rated amongst the top 20 (at nr 16) of all clubs in Europe - possession ,pass rate etc.
Martinez is obviously doing something right which also impresses managers from super clubs entrusting their precious "babies" to Everton on loan

For me, we shouldnt be squabbling over who done well in the transfer market. Every manager, even the greatest in the world...SAF, Jose...all make great signings and all buy lemons.

Moyes done it, Martinez will do it.

This is the kind of thing we should be focusing on when it comes to players in the squad and youth development.

“In any performance from a youngster I never focus on the mistakes, I value their reaction to the mistakes and their next pass, or next decision,” - Martinez on Stones from todays Echo.

'What were finding is Ross will probably make his mistakes in our first team which could be costly to the club'
Moyes on Barkley, Oct 2011

This is a new era for Everton football club, we need to get with the programme and not lose our heads when we have drawn a few games. Long term goal and vision.

Couldn't agree more

The biggest difference between the two managers in a nutshell right there.

He's not been here long enough for me to judge him on the field, but off the pitch Martinez has been a breath of fresh air. He's so positive whenever he talks to the media and just has fantastic outlook on everything. Quite the change from dour Scots!
