I recognise Keane was solid yesterday and in the first half, I would describe his performance as commanding. If I’m honest, I still think he’s a weak link. His upper body strength is not there. He found Murray difficult to handle in the second half and was out muscled a couple of times He definitely isn’t confident on the ball and if asked to do anything other than a simple pass, he puts his arms outstretched in front of him as if to say “come on, help me out”.

Presently, because his confidence is improved from his annus horriblus last season, he’s doing well. His big test is next Sunday against sheer pace and tight skills that Chelsea posses.

I still say that Silva’s preferred central partnership is Zouma and Mina.

I disagree re his passing. His passing is actually very decent. If he’s putting his arms in the air and asking for movement then that’s likely to be other players not doing their jobs and making themselves free for a pass, in which case he’s right to let them know he expects movement from them.

Wow what a transformation. Hope he can keep it up. Now this must have been how he was playing for Burnley.

I think it is even better than that, Burnley played a very specific defending style, much deeper and his game was blocking and heading it away. I had major doubts after seeing him last year when he looked immobile and really suspect against pace.

Looks really good this year.

His passing is decent for sure. Think it's the most surprising part of his game.

Probably helps having a settled partner. Proving me wrong this season. Good. Keep it up Keane, lad.

...it’s not only having a ‘settled partner’, it’s about having the ‘right partner’. Zouma provides the athleticism Keane lacks, it could actually be a matter of Zouma/Keane or Zouma/Mina. Very interesting how Mina/Keane manage Chelsea next week.

Totally agree- I think folk get too focused on what an individual player does but forget that to function as a team you need a blend. Same goes for key areas such as defence. I don't think we have had a good mix at cb since Jags and Dustin in their pomp.

Keane is a revelation this season. Think it's the Silva effect in training telling him where he should be and shouldn't be. Good management has made Keane the player we bought. Bad management made Keane the player he was last season.
I said last season and people laughed at me that Keane would be one of our top players if he had a good, fast CB partner. Keane is slow and you can have the luxury of one slow defender not 3 like we had last season Baines, Jags/Williams and Keane. I'm still of the opinion that he'll be our main man in defense soon and we'll be fighting off bids from the "big 6".

More than the Silva effect, maybe the simple answer is him now having a quality centre - half next to him in Zouma.

I wonder if some of these people calling him a coward and the worst Everton signing ever are a bit embarrassed?
Nah because at the time most said them things (myself included for the first part) before we knew that his foot was falling off and he was properly awful. But it is ok to be proven wrong by big Mick, long may it continue.

Really pleased that this lad is getting some good comments after his performances this season, I always thought he would come good and after so many different factors in the melting pot this season he has, great for the club and I hope it will be soon recognised at international level as well.
