I don’t think it was purposeful. They probably didn’t expect it to escalate to the level it did and then they didn’t have enough officers to properly deal with it. As has been mentioned before they didn’t have the numbers to make lots of arrests at the time as every arrest would take out 2 to 3 police at least. After Southport though they realised that things could escalate and then were better prepared at most of the subsequent rallies/protests that happened.

Would be very weird to purposefully leave your officers in danger.

I cant remember the last time over 50 officers were injured.

It is a lot, but the ad hoc nature of the response and the bravery of the cops in refusing to allow the mosque to be attacked (which is what withdrawing would have resulted in) probably led to more injuries than there would have been if they'd been expecting it.

There wasn't a dog squad and a tear gas crew anywhere in the northwest? With all the intelligence throughout the day before it? what's happened to boris' water cannons? I fully expect some of the racist morons are on football banning orders, why not utilise some of that stuff to prevent them traveling?
