Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Fabulous pics @Barnfred 55. Such a beautiful part of the world. We really are blessed in the UK to have such gorgeous scenery around us - if only the weather was less unpredictable. Cal will be loving that you are visiting all your places that you went to together. She'll be watching ( and admiring the well toned buttocks on her hubby :) !) Love all your tubs @Gwladysover. So pretty.

Don't know what's wrong with me just lately. I feel really deflated most of the time. No logical reason to either. No major stress in my life. I've a lot to be thankful for. I think Everton are getting to me in spite of trying to tell myself it's only a game. I spend most of my spare thoughts on them. It's exhausting. And I'm sick of everybody, and I mean as in non Evertonians, having an opinion and telling me that opinion. I want to shout loudly at them - F off, concentrate on your own team. I'm going to have give myself a good talking to.

Anyway in other news i swapped my non working day this week from today to tomorrow. I've had to work three days in a row. That was a tough gig! lol lol lol

Hope you feel a bit happier soon, Anj. Funny how everyone seems to have an opinion on what is wrong with Everton, my Manure SIL being a prime example, every time I see him usually greets me with “See you had another bad result”I took great pleasure in reminding him they conceded twice as many against R/S as we did. Shut him up for a little while. Don’t let the b******s grind you down?

Good morning hope everyone is well, just noticed the time, going to ring the Drs at 8am that is what you have to do to get an appointment that isn't 3 weeks away. I've had enough now, my arms are sore, I can't laterally lift them fully, obviously my neck, which is pretty bad and my hips and pelvis are still hurting when I walk. I gave it chance to go away and it hasn't.

There is part of a verse in a song which I think about all the time, particularly the last 4 lines, At my age, I didn't envisage being in such bad shape.

My eyes are red and gold,
the hair is standing straight up
This is not the way I pictured me
I can't control my shakes
How the hell did I get here?
Something about this, so very wrong..
I have to laugh out loud,
I wish I didn't like this Is it a dream or a memory?

Anyway have a good day guys. In a queue lol
Can’t whack a bit o’ Slipknot

Thanks Gwladys. I don't think the state of the world in general is helping either. Putin is becoming increasingly unhinged and the less said about our shameless Government the better. MOT every two years? Well that £40 is really going to help with utility/fuel/food price increases that are happening now.

When are you off to Norfolk?

I'd hazard a guess it's a culmination of things Anj. You'll definitely be feeling down over Everton. You'll also be worried over your dad without realising it. There'll be things in work that probably irk you and there'll be other things too no doubt. Individually they may not mean much (Everton apart) but collectively they'll take their toll. Hopefully you'll get over it soon. The warmer weather usually helps cheer your mood.

As regards Everton, just do what I do. Simply don't read or listen to what's being said. If it's somebody stood in front of you doing it, just walk away or better still follow your own suggestion. lol

The original owner of the house had traveled all over the world collecting all sorts of fauna, and the climate at that location meant that it all thrived. Then he/she died, and it fell into ruin, (the grounds, not the house). Then someone bought the place, and resurrected the grounds. I recall seeing massive lilys, like 6 feet across. Astonishing. And that must be 30 years ago. Must be brilliant 30 years later.
It'll be either Glendurgan or the one next door to it, Trebah. Both are very similar in design and have a stoney beach at the bottom. The Durgan beach includes a village but Trebah is just a beach from memory, and Trebah also has a large pond at the bottom. Not sure if that helps.

All the large houses and gardens in the vicinity of Mawnan Smith were built and developed by the one extended family, the Foxes, in the early 1800s. They were Quakers but also keen botanists and all the gardens (at least 6 that I know of, including the 2 mentioned above) have the same/similar planting.

I've looked at the history of both gardens and Glendurgan was taken over by the NT in the 1960s, so I doubt it would have still been overgrown 30 years ago. Trebah however, acquired new owners in the 1980s who were encouraged to develop the gardens which were subsequently opened to the public. Sounds like Trebah might be your guy. The entrance is literally a 100 yards down the road from Glendurgan. I last went there about 5 years ago and they really are spectacular. Look up their website which has some great photos.

I think you are probably right. Lots of little things building into a general feeling of meh. The sunny weather hasn't really hit the north east this week. I had the heating on today!

Sounds like Trebah to me. We were there this time last year.

Had a nice afternoon so far. Been out for about two and a half hours and walked down, or rather up because it's uphill on the way out, to Glendurgan gardens. It's one of the valley gardens quite common in this area of Cornwall but it's the only one administered by the National Trust. Next door to it is Trebah, Jazzy's favourite place, and I'll probably visit there later in the year. Trebah is probably one of the two best gardens in Cornwall along with Heligan. At the bottom of the garden is Durgan village, well a hamlet really, on the banks of the Helford. There were a few National trust properties down there that Cal used to cover so we were probably down there once or twice a week during the summer. It's the first time I've been there since Cal passed and I thought I might get a bit upset but i was fine. It's a tidal river and the tide was in so it was great to smell the salt air and the seaweed and the sea as a contrast to the smell of bluebells and other fauna in the garden. The walk back up to the top of the garden was a bit of a slog, but fortunately the mile and a half back into the village was pretty much flat or downhill so I was fine by the time I got home. I'm finding the walks getting physically easier which is good. Had a few chats to different people along the way, most of them older couples on holiday. Took a few pics for Sass but I'll probably have to reduce the size before posting so that should take me most of the afternoon. For now, the sun is shining again and I'm going to sit out in the back for a bit and have an ice cream. If the wind isn't too bad i might just stay out there a touch longer and have a glass of beer too. ;)
Sounds a great walk
