Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning all, thought I best let everyone know I'm ok seeing as I've had a few messages, not used to people caring what I'm up too. Just not been feeling myself mentally these last few weeks but I'm ok.

I'll try and post more now, starting to feel a bit more normal. Daisy says Hi :)

I hope everyone is well and not too disheartened by the Blues. Looks bleak now and it is a bit heart breaking watching the most expensive and well paid players we have ever had do this to us but we will be here long after them.

Anyway, I shall try be more active. Stay safe and well

Nice to see you back. Hello to Daisy too x

Brilliant
It gets tired very quickly haha she's a nob lol She does it to cool down I think, she loves sunbathing but absolutely hates walking when it's hot, she heats up really quickly.

I always take a bottle of water and I have a collapsible bowl in case I'm out too long, so she can have a slurp but her back gets really hot so when it's warm she doesn't like going too far.

I despise those scamners.
My 94 Yr old mum has a mobile phone but only uses it to phone 4 friends. I've inputted those numbers.
Despite hardly using it she gets loads of scam calls. Fortunately now she only answers when one of her friends names pop up but I'm blocking about 5 numbers a week.
Arrgh wish there was no swear filter on here. It begins with B and ends in s .
Bus??

Time to tell ,@jazzy commented on my skill set the other week so I need to share .
The MOT is coming up next month for our car so I had a look at it ,changed the winter tyres for summer ones and decided to change the oil and filter -something I have done countless times .For the ones who don't know - there is a "dipstick " that tells you how much oil is in the engine - so I took out the plug and drained the oil took off the filter and changed it and then put in just less than the recommended amount of oil.
It is just as bad to have too much as too little .
Then I waited for the oil to drain into the bottom where the dipstick reads .it was well and I mean well above where it should be ,so I run the engine for 15 seconds to make sure it wasn't airlocked or something .Checked again after a few minutes to find no change ,so I suspected I had an oil filter that wasn't letting the oil pass through .
I got another from a neighbour and then needed to empty the oil out again but when I took the oil plug out no oil came out !
I had drained the gearbox oil not the engine oil so I had to borrow a car to get the gearbox oil and start again. What a clown.
One might even say that you've been a bit of a dipstick?

Of course that's something I'd never call you Blue

I'm impressed you even knew how Blue.

I am absolutely hopeless with anything mechanical. Changing a fuse is my limit.

Interesting that you commented on the doors leading from the dining room to the Orangery yesterday in Rosie's picture.

They were hand made by a master carpenter for us when we moved here 26 years ago. My dad who was also a carpenter ( he built furniture for captain's cabins in Devonport dockyard before becoming a full time Trades Union official) and was an absolute perfectionist said that they were superb and gave them the highest praise ever saying he couldn't have done a better job.

Sadly I haven't inherited any of my dad's wonderful manual skills.
Just one question Jazz. What's a fuse?

One of the benefits of the last two mornings early starts is that I have heard the distinctive calls of the villages resident peacocks. My new mate from the local bus service reliably informed me that there are a couple of male peacocks that inhabit the village, and whilst I didn't disbelieve her, I've never actually seen them myself. I still haven't, but the last two mornings around 7.30 I most certainly heard them.

I had another enjoyable morning in Truro. I thought it was just Michelle and I going, but I wasn't entirely surprised to see her two children, Sam and Peter turn up as they do practically everything as a family. We dropped Michelle off at the College where she was getting her hair done and the 3 of us went back in to the town centre, with Sam dropping Peter and I off together. I fully expected the two of us to then go our separate ways but Peter tagged along when I went to the Asian supermarket on the edge of town to stock up on supplies. We then walked back into town together and he seemed quite happy when I suggested I join him for breakfast at Wetherspoons. I've never really had the chance to have a proper one to one conversation with Peter. He's a bit of a loner and a tech geek, and although I've been in his company many times it's always been with the rest of the family and he's never really stuck around very long. But I had a really good chat with him today and enjoyed his company. He's a lot younger than me at 31, and we have very little in common as regards our likes and hobbies, but he's intelligent and easy going so having a conversation was not a challenge as it is with some people. Anyway, I found out that he's now my actual landlord. The family finances are quite complicated. He recently sold the house next door to me which he owned (where the young veggies now live) and also had a decent inheritance when his grandmother died. So between them they decided he would buy the house I live in, which would remove a substantial asset out of the estate when it comes to inheritance tax, plus also generate some cash flow for the business for the parents to take out towards their retirement. Anyway, his dad's never told me any of this so it's mums the word as far as I'm concerned. I feel quite comfortable in the knowledge that he is my landlord, especially as he's happily ensconced next door but one rent free in a property his sister owns. And she lives over the road rent free in a property her parents own. Talk about musical chairs. lol

Bottom line is that I thought we bonded a little, and with the parents going to be away for the most part of the summer, there may be an opportunity to socialise a bit more with him. Maybe even talking him into going into Falmouth now occasionally. There is a lot going on over the summer, especially during Falmouth week in August. I know Sam is going to be spending a fair bit of time joining her parents on their boat so maybe I could have him around for drinks and a bite to eat when she's away. We'll see.

It's weird. It's almost as if I'm having to learn how to socialise all over again. It's a lovely afternoon here folks so I'm going to plant myself on my sunbed for an hour and take in the rays, and then give my new flowers a good watering.

Good to hear you had a great time and are making some new friends. Have you managed to uproot yourself from the sun bed yet? If you’ve some water left over could you send it up here, my carrots and potatoes could do with some and our water butt is empty, it hasn’t rained here for weeks.

Great post Fred another tiny step .

Not much in the way of rain down hear either Gwladys. But all the lakes seem pretty full.

Funnily enough my young neighbour was telling me earlier that despite the lack of rain his water butt is still pretty full.
