Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning everyone,

A great start to the day to hear that T is OK.

Mrs J off to the Charity shop for this morning. She does a huge amount of work to help the charity ranging from walking dogs at the sanctuary, vetting new owners and arranging new homes but most of her time is spent fundraising. She runs the shop and sorts through all the donations.

We have been donated some amazing stuff. We had a guitar that I was able get a couple of grand for , a lot of Lorna Bailey pottery that together went for over £3 k and just this week a coin collection that she sold for £1500.

Just as important are the ordinary donations of gift sets and such like. Echoes of the tale of the widows mite from my Sunday School days there!

The generosity of people is wonderful and gives you a warm glow sometimes.

So with Mrs J out this morning I'm in charge of the gorgeous but often naughty Rosie.

Then this afternoon I'm off to inspect 2 new premises for my table tennis club after our current landlords proposed a 200% increase on our rent! After a bit of negotiation they have come down significantly but my members want us to check out alternatives before deciding whether to accept the increase.

Then some gardening before I'm out again tonight to support one of my TT teams in a final.

And I thought retirement would be restful!

Have a lovely day everyone!

Morning all, thought I best let everyone know I'm ok seeing as I've had a few messages, not used to people caring what I'm up too. Just not been feeling myself mentally these last few weeks but I'm ok.

I'll try and post more now, starting to feel a bit more normal. Daisy says Hi :)

I hope everyone is well and not too disheartened by the Blues. Looks bleak now and it is a bit heart breaking watching the most expensive and well paid players we have ever had do this to us but we will be here long after them.

Anyway, I shall try be more active. Stay safe and well

T
Really good to hear from you T. We worry about you when you don't post because we know you have to endure so much pain. Plus of course we miss tales of Daisy's escapades. How's the renovations coming along?. All sorted?

haha No Fred, what a disaster, the carpet guy crashed his car on his way to see me and wrote it off. I didn't think he'd be up and running for a while and being on a tight budget, I used the money for shopping, then 2 days later he contacted me and said he'd be up and running by good friday. Anyway got it sorted eventually and he's coming 9th May now.

Does everyone remember we were on about scammers the other week? Well I came across some youtube channels run by computer hackers that target these scammers and expose them. really good watch but shocking at the same time.

Some these are professional scammers with an actual call centre in India, one of the hackers has even learned Hindi so he knows what they're saying behind his back, very funny.
Here's an example, these channels all help each other as well

I despise those scamners.
My 94 Yr old mum has a mobile phone but only uses it to phone 4 friends. I've inputted those numbers.
Despite hardly using it she gets loads of scam calls. Fortunately now she only answers when one of her friends names pop up but I'm blocking about 5 numbers a week.
Arrgh wish there was no swear filter on here. It begins with B and ends in s .

They're disgusting scumbags who target the elderly and vulnerable. You can register on the telephone preference service, if it is still a thing and that will block unwanted calls.

Here's a good one, the hacker got into the scammers computer and deleted files, then contacted an old bloke who had been scammed to warn him, then he calls back the scammer and tells him what a scumbag he is and hacked his PC. These guys are legends in my eyes.

Time to tell ,@jazzy commented on my skill set the other week so I need to share .
The MOT is coming up next month for our car so I had a look at it ,changed the winter tyres for summer ones and decided to change the oil and filter -something I have done countless times .For the ones who don't know - there is a "dipstick " that tells you how much oil is in the engine - so I took out the plug and drained the oil took off the filter and changed it and then put in just less than the recommended amount of oil.
It is just as bad to have too much as too little .
Then I waited for the oil to drain into the bottom where the dipstick reads .it was well and I mean well above where it should be ,so I run the engine for 15 seconds to make sure it wasn't airlocked or something .Checked again after a few minutes to find no change ,so I suspected I had an oil filter that wasn't letting the oil pass through .
I got another from a neighbour and then needed to empty the oil out again but when I took the oil plug out no oil came out !
I had drained the gearbox oil not the engine oil so I had to borrow a car to get the gearbox oil and start again. What a clown.

And then .
We have put our fishnet in the river but on checking yesterday the flow had turned it so the mouth was facing down and no fish could enter ,not deterred I rerouted the rope and but it back .
Upon going to check this morning the force of the flow had carried it downstream a few metres but caught it on some roots and shoots ,whilst trying to release it ,yes you have guessed in I went but only up to my knees .
So management decision ,watch some tv it is safer .

I'm impressed you even knew how Blue.

I am absolutely hopeless with anything mechanical. Changing a fuse is my limit.

Interesting that you commented on the doors leading from the dining room to the Orangery yesterday in Rosie's picture.

They were hand made by a master carpenter for us when we moved here 26 years ago. My dad who was also a carpenter ( he built furniture for captain's cabins in Devonport dockyard before becoming a full time Trades Union official) and was an absolute perfectionist said that they were superb and gave them the highest praise ever saying he couldn't have done a better job.

Sadly I haven't inherited any of my dad's wonderful manual skills.
