Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Feel a bit guilty saying this with all the bad news around the thread today, but I've actually had a good day. Met the neighbours for coffee this morning, and spent a couple of hours with Cal's old workmate this afternoon. I popped around to the cottage to see her but she'd finished early and just caught her on the way out. So we spent the afternoon in my back garden having a couple of drinks enjoying the sun. Company and conversation. Two of the things I'm missing most in my life at the moment.

The neighbours, having just returned from South Africa on Wednesday, are off on their travels again next Wednesday. They're off on their very nice motor launch and plan to be away for the whole summer exploring the Channel Isles and Brittany. So I have the loan of them in the short time they are here. We're going out for lunch tomorrow, Monday the wife is taking me to the local nurseries to get some bedding plants and Tuesday she's going to drop me off in town (Truro) whilst she gets her hair done. Truro is the only place down here where they have the bigger chain stores and, although it's less than 20 miles away, it isn't the easiest place to get to.

They asked if i want to join them for a spell when they are in the Channel Isles. It's something that was on the to do list for Cal and I and I have a good friend who lives in St Helier, an old client actually. Plus I think it would be good for me. It's amazingly good of them to ask me really. I frequently wonder whether they just feel sorry for me, but maybe they do actually enjoy my company.
Never feel bad about having a good day. I've had a lovely day too. You've had more than enough bad days recently so enjoy the good. A visit to the Channel Islands sounds brilliant. Do it. I'm sure your neighbours enjoy your company. From the what I've seen on here you seem like a good bloke and a good laugh.

Donegal for me tomorrow ahead of the big game on Sunday. Suitcase packed up, petrol in the car and looking forward to a nice night away.

Game itself is huge, will be fast and hard hitting and mentally must win for both teams. So glad to have this Armagh team to follow at the minute ?
Why an overnight stay ? ( apart from to have few beers and a good night ) Isn't everywhere in Ireland within an days drive there and back ?

Thurles for me Sunday. Looking forward to that too. 4 games in 5 weekends. Tough going

You will love Jersey Fred , but actually St Helier is poo . St Brelade is the place to go . Gorgeous

If they are normal, sensible folk they will very much enjoy your company, mate. You should deffo go to the Isles. Regret the things you did not do and all that.
Oh I am mate. Also made a conscious decision to visit the Scilly Isles too, this summer or next. It's another place that was on our bucket list. Think my recent episode with P&O has put me off cruising for a while so why not the Scillies? Not as if I have to travel far to get the ferry. The only issue there is finding somewhere to stay this summer at late notice.

A little tip Fred.

We loved The Scillies .

Fly from Lands End - only takes 15 minutes and avoids you getting seasick ( the ferry from Penzance is terrible ).

Stay in St Marys ( much much cheaper ) and get the little boats ( very frequent ) to Tresco etc .

Wonderful place to visit.

We actually stayed in New Inn on Tresco . Its fantastic but very expensive

What a lovely corner of the world this is.

Same here for the Scilly Isles. I will definitely be going at some point but have not made it there yet!

Father in law grew up in Guernsey.
His stories made it sound idellic
Think Guernsey is where they plan to moor up their boat for a month or so and explore the islands from there. But there are flights to Jersey from Newquay, so that's where I'll be travelling too/from. After I've spent time with them on their boat, I was thinking I may spend some time on my own on Jersey before flying back.

Tresco is on my must go to list. The Abbey gardens look incredible. The beaches on St Martin likewise.

Heard countless tales about the Scillonian III. I almost consider it a challenge lol
