Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I didn’t know there was a School Lane hotel in the City Centre. I know the street itself, as it is quite unique off the main thoroughfare, but never knew you could stay there. A friend was over the other week, first time in the city, and mentioned it to me.

On a busy Saturday, that must be one of the busiest pedestrian areas in England (from the bottom of Bold St to Lord St)

So that was actually a school then! I was never sure what it used to be but it is beautiful. I know that area as Bluecoat so you are definitely correct.

Morning all, bit brighter today after a week of grey skies and rain. Grandkids nos. 3 & 4 are coming for a sleepover tonight, their parents are off on a jolly. We’ve also been dog sitting for son &family three days this week. Thought it might get easier after school runs finished, then they go and get a dog which can’t be left alone.🙄 They’ll miss us when we’re gone 😂.
Have a good day, all.💙

The Bluecoat school your mum wanted you to go to is on Church road in Wavertree, it opened in the early 1700s. I’m an “old blue” 1971-78.

Mum doing better. Last week has been a blur. I am so so lucky I don’t work 9 to 5 as standard so I can visit every day by luck of schedule.

Next week I’m in the hot seat but got the last 2 days to read and prep in front of the mirror. My beautiful wife has done everything from meals to running me a bath. When you are feeling vulnerable, to be handed tea and sandwich when you are feeling the work pressure is precious.

There was also a Bluecoat School in Dublin, the original building was replaced in 1783 and is still there as the home of the Law Society, the body for Irish solicitors.

They were founded in a number of cities in Britain and Ireland as charitable institutions in the 19th Century.

The original Dublin School was founded in 1669.

Today's successor is the modern campus of King's Hospital School which is in Palmerstown, west Dublin.

Did you notice the verdigris is not all the way around the dome ,a replacement segment as te same facet lower down has it so it cannot be the exposure and that the stones on the portico are slightly rounded but not on the main front facade . I love old buildings .

Good morning all on thsi dark one yet ,we are expecting -20° again and are planning a forest walk .We always take my phone in case of accidents but realistically it would be hard to tell them where we are !
No sign of incomings yet ? I read that Beto was going to Turkey ,if so I wish him well ,he was a blue before he signed so let's hope he remains one .
Have a great day all COYB
I have just seen the news Jimmy has signed for the next few years which is great news .

It is unfinished! Unclear why, but it may be a quirky deliberate symmetrical design!

The original design was for a tall steeple but this was not completed and the lower cupola dome was built instead. This led to the resignation of the architect Ivory in protest.
It was a school until 1968 and the Law Society acquired it in 1971 while the now King's Hospital School had moved to Palmerstown.

. That's my school years as well! Im trying to think of any Bluecoat boys I knew but there are very few. A couple I used to say hello to on the 80 bus home from school. One might have been called Julian. Being in the Catholic education system, we did all our socialising with St Edwards SFX and Cardinal Allen.
