Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Just watching the Derby again. They’re really a special bunch these reds aren’t they it’s hilarious to see.
Early start tomorrow for us. Following mr Ps pre op assessment they won’t progress until he has a scan on his heart. This is due to him having an atrial myxoma removed a few years ago and apparently the anaesthetist wants reassurance that it’s not growing back which is both reassuring and terrifying in equal measure. So after rattling a few cages on Monday I’ve managed to get an appointment tomorrow morning for him as we are keen for his progress towards a new knee to carry on.
Hopefully we’ll have something to celebrate tomorrow night as we are going out for dinner to our local restaurant for Valentine’s Day.
I think I need to see a doctor tbh as I keep having positive thoughts about Moyes as our manager 😂
Have a lovely Friday everyone 💙
Whilst you see the doctor ask them for tablets, it is called elation and has very little to do with Moyes .He just walked through the door at the right time and he doesn't wear blinkers. Good luck to MrP on his scan.

I was very like that at first, in a sense of not being bothered and just wanting things to be a bit easier but as the day has gone on and I have thought more about it I'm starting to have some doubts about the look of it and the reality of wearing one.
Vanity is a terrible thing ,there is no stigma to wearing an aid ,if you lose it it will be in your ear . Just be glad they have them ,you will be so happy afterwards the world will be a better more alive place . They can be so small you cannot tell them from buds .

One of my favourite hobbies is Hi-Fi and I go to audio shows and despite my impairment I can still discern good and not so good systems.

I might mishear the occasional word and places like restaurants/ pubs can be challenging and accept that hearing loss is progressive but in my mind I'm at least a couple of years away from needing aids
I don't believe what I have seen you post ,you must realise that what you hear from your system is flawed and that you would be as well off with mine .Do you have special headphones to compensate ?

SB I was advised to have hearing aids last year ( too many loud gigs in my teens I guess ) but vanity and a refusal to accept that my hearing really isn't that bad has made me postpone the decision for a couple of years. Good luck
Mr G. was the same, refusing to believe his hearing was bad. Finally got him to the docs. after the telly was getting to the point of making my ears bleed and I feared getting complaints from people in the next street  . He was amazed at all the things he was missing- birdsong especially the only downside he can’t wear them in cafe’s, pubs etc as the background noise is overpowering.

I put off getting them for a few years but bit the bullet about 15 months ago as there were becoming too many occasions when I missed out on conversations. Then I kept reading articles about poor hearing increasing risk of dementia as you became more socially isolated if not hearing , joining in conversations etc. They’ve helped me no doubt, but it is a strange one in that nobody worries about people with poor eyesight , or wearing specs for reading as they get older . The Bluetooth features you get are great for phone calls and listening to podcasts when I’m running 🙂

Well I guess its normally seen as an "Old thing " but I found out today I got to have a hearing aid. My hearing has been wild for a while and I have been suffering with tinnitus for ages, it got a bit better then went worse again. The reality of it has not quite set in yet as my hearing has always been razor sharp despite numerous other issues I have, I'm only in my 40's so fun and games ahead no doubt, guaranteed I will probably lose the damm thing within the first week anyway lol
Wearing them will be second nature after a few days and perhaps the perfect hearing you will enjoy will overcome the disappointment of needing them. To add to that, some of the hearing aids I have seen are so discreet I didn’t realise the person was wearing one until they mentioned it.

I'm sure it will all be fine, I have a month before I actually get it so can get my head around it. My hair is fairly long so I doubt it will be that visible tbh, I think it was just that initial reality of it yesterday, I'm a bit more relaxed about it this morning.

Luck of the Irish to Mr P today.

It’s a shock for sure and it takes time to get your head around it. One positive though, in your 40s and still have long hair ;)

Do you ever stop to think before writing?
Do you not think that as a reasonably intelligent individual that I have weighed up the pros and cons and that my hearing whilst slightly defective might not actually be that bad.
I will refrain from making any other observations upon your post.

That's really where I am tbh, I have the tinnitus in my left ear but my right is fine and hears perfectly well (so I thought anyway) but the actual hearing test I did was fairly extensive through different headphones playing a variety of beeps and sounds at various frequencies/volumes and some I could hear fine and others I really struggled with even in my so called 'good ear' the results come up on a graph straight away and showed issues in both which I was slightly surprised at.

Yep I did that one too. Mine showed a slight defect that was borderline for needing hearing aids. As the audiologist put it ..."if everyone over 50 had their ears tested most would show something similar"
