Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning everyone,

Last day in Madeira today.

Had a fab time mostly visiting gardens and doing mountain levada walks.

Yesterday was Mrs Js birthday and when we got back to the hotel received an invite to go to the 11th floor terrace bar where they put on free canapes and a bottle of prosecco. Lovely and I didn't even tell them , must have just scanned the passport when we checked it. Perfect after a 5 hour hike.

Weather's been lovely, about 20 degrees and mostly sunny.

If you've been never been I really recommend Madeira and Funchal, great for a short break.

Full day today , sightseeing/ shopping in the old town, a tasting session at Blandys and a paella lunch in the sun before a late flight tonight.

Hope everyone is ok and have a lovely day.

Glad you enjoyed it Jazzy, but for such a small place there is that much to see you really need a couple of weeks tbh. Did to get to go on the wicker toboggan, that’s an experience depending on how crazy the control guy is……

Good morning all on this misty day here in Hyvinkää. I hope all are well and had a good night 's sleep .It is hard when someone passes as it reminds you of your own mortality .we are here for a short time ,this is why I try to do something every day that makes my being here worthwhile . I have watched some just waiting for the day the grim reaper ,it will not be me !
Once again this thread is showing that we have a real connection ,which is lovely .
Have a great day all COYB
I don’t like sitting around either, I operate on the premise a moving target is harder to hit. lol
Little story regarding my Grandad, another who liked to remain active. He drove a delivery lorry for a local builders’ merchants and stayed on after reaching retirement age, his employer was happy for him to continue. Two heart attacks at 68 forced Grandad into retirement and he was not happy, the R word was banned in his hearing. His former mates and employers clubbed together and bought, what they considered to be the best present they could give and which, in fact, was the absolute worst …. a lovely comfy armchair which must have cost a pretty penny. The boss went round to Grandad to present him with the chair, Grandad was horrified with the implication that all he was good for was sitting in a chair and not one to mince his words told the boss exactly what he thought. My Nan and Mum (who was visiting at the time) were left cringing with embarrassment and the boss loaded the armchair back onto the van. It was never spoken of again, well at any rate not when Grandad could hear! Grandad lived to 89 and was still shinning up the walnut tree in his garden to cut branches well into his eighties.

Took a walk today around my old university and stood for a while just taking it all in. It honestly is like a different life now to think of myself walking around there like cock of the walk over 20 years ago. Maybe I’m feeling a bit wistful after our sad loss of our friend but it was one of those stop you in your track moments.
