Remember that Green survey I had a few weeks back? Well, it seems I qualify for cavity wall and loft insulation, and maybe an Air Source Heat Pump. All for gratis. The insulation is a no brainer, obvs, but that heat pump? Not convinced if I am honest.
The gas bill has already gone from £270 pm to £85 pm, due to my usage anyrate, and a heat pump has to be on all the time, powered by leccy. (It works the opposite way a fridge does). You need new rads, new piping, (all gratis), so if you find the leccy costs far out weigh the gas cost, you are lumbered with it.
Thats without the fact that the log burner seems to keep the whole downstairs reasonably warm, and dead toastie in the snug. We have a reasonable carbon footprint as it is, so dont really want to be lumbered with a dead expensive heating system just to satisfy some Go Green target.
