Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hope you are feeling better, Sass. Also I hope that you get the ring, it would be lovely for you to be able to pass it on to Sofia and I am sure she would treasure it always. We had a similar situation in our family. My Mum was promised the family Bible by her great aunt. It had belonged to her mother (my Mum’s gt gt grandma) who had received as a prize when she was a child. Its only value was as an heirloom. My Mum never received it and for the rest of her life she would mention the Bible wondering where it had gone, suspecting that her sister had taken it from the family home when she married. Talking to a cousin recently I mentioned the Bible, he knew nothing about it but said he would investigate. Imagine my surprise when he emailed to say he had tracked it down. It had been in the possession of a cousin who passed away six years ago and had found its way to yet another cousin (still with me, it’s rather complicated) who said I could have it as it was rightfully mine. I’m pleased to have it but very sad at the same time to think how thrilled my Mum would have been to have finally got her inheritance.
How unfortunate for your mum that she had to live with this feeling of not getting what was to be hers, but at least you now have the Bible and will pass it down as a family heirloom so you are making your mum’s wishes a reality and she is probably smiling about it in heaven :)

@SassI wanted to tell you about a ring my Mum had. When she passed away my Dad gave his 4 granddaughters a piece of her jewellery, I got her engagement ring, which is beautiful. It cost him £477 in 1959 - he still had the receipt. I dread to think what it's worth now. Anyway there was one ring left, a beautiful ruby and diamond one, shaped like a flower with with ruby petals and a diamond middle. My Dad did not know what to do with it. He told me he was going to give it to my oldest cousin on Mum's side. I basically said over my dead body. We hardly ever saw her. I told him to keep it or give it to my brother in case he ever has a granddaughter. He has 3 sons. Lo and behold little Scarlett arrived a year ago and Dad has already told my brother he has added it into his will that she gets the ring.
I’m sure your dad had good intentions when he thought about giving your mum’s ring to your cousin, but you did well by telling him to keep it for your brother so he can also have the opportunity to pass down something from your mother to his granddaughter. I bet Scarlett will treasure it!

When has NATO ever been the aggressor in any situation? Did I miss something , has NATO threatened to invade Russia ?

Allowing 2 more countries to join an alliance that pledges to support each other IF attacked can hardly be described as a hostile act or inflammatory unless Russia has plans to attack Finland or Sweden.
I am not saying they are being outright aggressive but they are planning to place so much weaponry close to the borders and have said that Russia is there main threat . Furthermore they are pledging so much aid and even more powerful rockets etc. I actually didn't say that they were being aggressive though I just said they were waving a red rag as in to a bull .
More a show of solidarity and determination.

Good morning all on this hot and sunny day here in Finland .We have being getting thunderstorms for the last three days -oh to be a weather forecaster .
I hope all had a good night and that we hear from @Methuselah today .
Stay strong and safe all.
Yes I'm very worried about M and Mrs M , not heard for some time.

Similarly @fandjango and @larbert toffee have been a bit quiet recently, hope you are both OK chaps.

So having asked for rain for the garden I now need it to stop so that I can get out and cut the grass before Fred's visit tomorrow. Sorry if that sounds contrarian but c'est moi !

Going to be busy around lunchtime on Friday as Rosie goes in to get her stitches out and I have to pick Frederick up from Ormskirk Station.

Hoping to spend the afternoon having a glass of vino or two in the garden with me and Fred putting the world to rights and talking about y'all so that's the reason if your ears are burning! Lol

OK have a wonderful day everyone and don't get too upset when Richy leaves the building. One thing for sure , it won't be as bad as when we sold Alan Ball to Arsenal.

I think if I was Finnish that I would feel safer being part of the NATO family.

How do your friends and other Finns view it?

Didn't @fandjango say he was off to New Zealand. Maybe he's busy doing Grandad things. Also a bit concerned about @Methuselah . I do hope hes OK.

Nothing will make me as sad as when Bob Latchford left but Richy comes close. Especially if we sell him at an undervalue/swap deal which is looking likely. I thought Moshiri was an accountant! He can't be very good at it. Or they need a former Trade Union rep and committed Evertonian to do the negotiations for them. Hmmm....do I know anyone who fits that description lol

Morning folks. My virus appears to be going away. However I spent a chunk of time on the phone to 111 ( non emergency medical number) persuading them that I did not need to visit A and E. Unbelievably my painkiller phobia came true - but with the wrong painkiller. I started displaying extremely uncommon, like 1 in 10,000, side effects to ibuprofen. I'll spare you the gory details. Followed the instructions- don't take any more, call 111, and spoke to a lovely lady who asked loads of questions none of which I could fully answer because I can't tell if it is the virus or the drugs causing it. Anyway feel much better so now I'm a) p*ssed off because I might have been better quicker without ibuprofen and b) completely vindicated about my dislike of painkillers. Seriously you couldn't make this sh*t up. I'm now thinking back to my experience with COVID last August which was probably the last time I took ibuprofen and/or paracetamol and I'm wondering if some of my symptoms were drug related rather than COVID related but never bothered to read the leaflets.

One positive to take away. I've lost 12lbs since Sunday!

I've just read that The Charrity Commission are opening an enquiry into the management of Capt Tom's fund. I never did like that daughter of his. She seemed to enjoy the limelight a little too much. And as for taking that poor old man to Barbados in the middle of a pandemic seemed to be a very bizarre decision.
