Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good news , boiler fitted in half the estimated time and no mess. Let's hope this one is more efficient and I can contribute to saving the planet! Would have gone for a heat pump but the cost is just so ridiculous..

Anyway raining now so can't get out and get the garden looking nice for Fred's visit on Friday .

Looks like Richy is Spurs bound. Can't blame him our lovely club is in a terrible mess due to some ludicrous buys and a waste of so much money.

If we stay up next season and start to correct our finances that will be a result.

Good morning all. Thanks for the good wishes. I'm feeling better than I did yesterday and about 1000 x better than on Sunday but still have a headache, I'm still dizzy and my sore throat is hanging around. @Terrarian I really feel for you, having experienced this for four days . I've just told my boss I'm stopping off all week. I know I wouldn't be able to read or concentrate for any length of time.

I too was very sad to read of the passing of Dame Deborah. Such an inspirational lady. Bowel cancer is awful. I represented a woman in work who was off sick having had a hernia op. No issues, she was never in trouble, her sick record was fine. She just wanted a union presence at her sick meetings. She rang me one day to say her husband had been diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer. He died 11 weeks later. He was 42, she was 37. They had a 6 year old son. So very sad. So going from a very routine sickness case I ended up supporting her through bereavement leave, phased return to work. It was heartbreaking. Have to say, work was, rightly, so supportive of her.

After that downer, @Barnfred 55 glad ypu are having a good time. I'm loving the food stories!

@SassI wanted to tell you about a ring my Mum had. When she passed away my Dad gave his 4 granddaughters a piece of her jewellery, I got her engagement ring, which is beautiful. It cost him £477 in 1959 - he still had the receipt. I dread to think what it's worth now. Anyway there was one ring left, a beautiful ruby and diamond one, shaped like a flower with with ruby petals and a diamond middle. My Dad did not know what to do with it. He told me he was going to give it to my oldest cousin on Mum's side. I basically said over my dead body. We hardly ever saw her. I told him to keep it or give it to my brother in case he ever has a granddaughter. He has 3 sons. Lo and behold little Scarlett arrived a year ago and Dad has already told my brother he has added it into his will that she gets the ring.
What a lovely outcome regarding your Mum’s ring, an heirloom for Scarlett to treasure. Money was tight so my Mum didn’t have an engagement ring (it became a trend as I didn’t either, but that’s another story). On their wedding day my Dad gave her a 22ct gold wedding band. which stayed on her finger for the next 67 years until I removed it shortly after she passed away.

??? That deserved more than a like. I have my Nan's wedding ring. MyMum gave it to me when we got engaged. Mr F thought it was a lovely gesture. They married in 1923. It is also 22ct gold - which seemed to be very much a thing in those days.

Back from the sports day. Jessica came second in the “balance the bean bag on your head race” and sister Hannah 4th in the marathon ”once round the field +100 metres”, a blummin’ long way if you ask me, which nobody did. lol. All the kids did well and were very sporting, cheering everyone, especially the ones who finished far behind the others. Granddaughters are in Blue House which came 4th and last, no need to ask the colour of the House that came first:(

Future Olympians definitely!

Well it seems NATO is waving a red rag ! It will be an interesting few weeks ahead. I feel that NATO must know more than we do .
When has NATO ever been the aggressor in any situation? Did I miss something , has NATO threatened to invade Russia ?

Allowing 2 more countries to join an alliance that pledges to support each other IF attacked can hardly be described as a hostile act or inflammatory unless Russia has plans to attack Finland or Sweden.
