Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Had a conversation this morning that I've been half expecting but not really looking forward to. Not as bad as it could have been but I'll explain all later when I've got time.

Anyway in need of a bit of cheering up so I'm sitting out in the sun and have just made myself a very nice Mojito. I do make a nice cocktail (by that I mean strong) even if I do say so myself.

Hope you all have a good Saturday peeps. Or should that be poops given the previous topic of conversation.

I have tons of mint growing in our garden and I have been wanting to make mojitos for a while. Reading you had some was the impetus I needed to have some cocktails tomorrow with the family. It is supposed to be another beautiful day so I’m having mum, stepdad and my brother over for a BBQ. How do you make your strong mojitos? Do you make sugar syrup?

Good result for Ireland tonight. Needed it.

Little anecdote. Coming back from an Everton game I bumped into an Irish youth side (club not international) who had been to the game. The manager explained that one of their lads had signed for Everton that very weekend and the team had come over with him. I told my other half this after and she asked if I had got him to sign my match programme? I laughed saying I wouldn’t ask a 16 year old boy who may never make it to do that!!

It was Shane Duffy. Now Captain of my country.
Happy for Ireland, AT.

Nice anecdote too, you never know how life it is going to turn around.

I did my part showing up, lots of people did and we march for an hour around downtown making our voices heard. Many more people showed up in Washington DC demanding changes. One of the speakers, 13 year old great granddaughter of Dr Martin Luther King Jr, had a good quote of the when she was asked why this time she thought this March could make a difference. She said “This time is different because this isn’t about politics. It’s about morality. Not right and left, but right and wrong, and that doesn’t just mean thoughts and prayers. That means courage and action.” Hopefully the US senate has heard us, the House passed gun legislation that now it is time for the Senate to have some courage and act too, if not then we need to vote them out in November. There have been more mass shootings in the US this year than days of the year. Enough is enough!
Well done for going. Hopefully it will make a difference. That is a very good quote.

I too grow mint in the garden Sass but buy in bottled syrup (which I also use in my Margaritas to balance the extra lime I put in). I normally put 3x25ml measures of Bacardi in my mojitos but yesterday I put in 4 then I always add a splash of spiced Rum at the end just to lift it. A tip I learned in Key West.?

Morning all, beautiful day here. Didn’t sleep too well, woken by fireworks at 12.45? and couldn’t get back to sleep, on the plus side dawn chorus was lovely. Hope you’ve recovered from yesterday’s exertions @anjelikaferrett and that you are feeling more cheerful @Barnfred 55 . Well done @Sassy Colombian , by making your voices heard you have all started to make a difference, mighty oaks from little acorns and all that ;). Good luck with the dog show @jazzy. Have a brilliant day, all?

@jazzy as promised, here are some pics of Rome. A very impressive city for those of us that appreciate great architectural structures. It is simply amazing what the Romans did back then to create all these buildings and sculptures, some of them are huge too.

I somehow missed a whole page of posts yesterday. Love the pictures Sass. Must have seen Rome about 5 times amongst our many cruises so all those photos are very familiar to me. I'm not really a City person but Florence, Rome and Cadiz in southern Spain are probably my favourite cities in the world, in that order.

Yep Rome is on the list for a long weekend. I really don't like cities but I will make a exception for Rome .......and Florence which together with Tuscany and the Italian lakes will comprise our tour of Italy ( in separate visits).
Beautiful photos !
Florence is brilliant Jazz. And everything is so walkable unlike Rome. If you do go don't miss out on the magnificent gardens. Can't remember what they are called but they are just over the Pont del Vecchio off the main drag. They are behind some large buildings on the River front and can't be seen from street level so you wouldn't know they were there. You will love it there.
