Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hello, we had a lovely afternoon. Went for lunch, had a couple of drinks sitting outside one of the pubs in the Market Place. Walked round the park - named South Park which always makes me laugh - and then went to see Jurassic World. It was brilliant. Utterly daft but very watchable. I loved it. Here's a couple pf pics from South Park, Darlington. Kenny and Cartman not included!

Lovely day to have a date with Mr. F, glad you had a great time ?

Happy Saturday mascoteers!

Sorry I missed yesterday’s good chats but I had a lot to do at work to get ready for the first Latin festival that I’ll be attending representing the College. So I have another busy day tomorrow, first marching against gun violence and then working at the festival but I’m looking forward to it. It is expected to be clear sky and sunny in Asheville, the temp is going to reach to 27°C so I may get a tan by the end of the day ? If it is not super busy I’ll try to post and give you an update on how things are going.

Thinking warmly of @Methuselah @Joey66 @blue to the bone @Spadge Vernacular @Terrarian @Bluetintedspecs @Harryflashman @Brett Angell Delight @tommye @chicoazul @Twinkletoes123 @d34noj and the many posters that have visited Karl’s coffee house in the past. Next week will be six months since he left us. Crazy how time flies. He is truly missed!

Have a beautiful Saturday everyone! Xxx

I’m also including some pics of
Artena, near Rome, is a lovely hillside town.
The area around Artena has pre-Roman origins, evidenced by the polygonal walls probably built by the Volsci (ancient Italic people prominent in the history of Roman expansion during the 5th century BC)
about six centuries before Christ. It was destroyed by the Romans in 404 BC and was re-established and developed in the early Middle Ages. We rented an Airbnb apartment in town that was over 500 year old. The building was built into the mountain. It was truly an impressive town, we didn’t see one tourist either while we were there. We actually had dinner at the only restaurant in town which was like a cave built into the mountain, and we were the only people there. The food was absolutely delicious too.

That looks amazing. I love seeing around churches when I’m somewhere different.

First time I was in the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool there was an Everton exhibition on (maybe football in the city) and I couldn’t believe it. Then I saw that there was also a cafe attached to the cathedral. Again, couldn’t believe it.

Such a difference to the churches I was used to at home.

Having said that, I was about 22 before I first set foot in a Protestant Church and you don’t get much more sheltered an upbringing than that.
I knew an old joiner ,he worked with a mason that served his whole working life building the Anglican cathederal.

My issue is that it is being funded by money from a country that treats women appallingly, where being gay is punishable by death, who executed 81 people on one day and who have waged a bombing campaign against Yemen, and murdered and dismembered a journalist in one of their embassies.. Their human rights record is dreadful. They are trying to gain respectability through sport and it is just plain wrong. I'm sad that nobody is saying this is wrong, they all have ££ signs in their eyes and can't see past the money. That goes for F1, boxing all of them - and Newcastle United. I would genuinely give up on Everton if they did what Newcastle did. I don't think it's the same as the Packer stuff in cricket - that was one individual putting up the money, not a tyrannical regime.
Well said.

@jazzy as promised, here are some pics of Rome. A very impressive city for those of us that appreciate great architectural structures. It is simply amazing what the Romans did back then to create all these buildings and sculptures, some of them are huge too.

Yep Rome is on the list for a long weekend. I really don't like cities but I will make a exception for Rome .......and Florence which together with Tuscany and the Italian lakes will comprise our tour of Italy ( in separate visits).
Beautiful photos !

You have a very busy schedule there , no time for sun bathing

Morning all,

It's great to see all the photos , so thanks to the lovely women on this thread.

Grass cutting today ( and there's a lot of it). I don't have a sit on so really good exercise for 3 hours or thereabouts.

Then down to the cricket for a top of the table match v Carnforth.

Note to self, don't drink too many beers as I doing the summer Dog Show on Sunday. That's always hectic and we are hoping for a big turn out with a good weather forecast. God knows we need the money with our vet bill.alone exceeding 20k.

Have a lovely day.

I felt the same way about Naples but Herculaneum was another fantastic site, it is so well preserved and unlike Pompei, it has a lot less tourists. But is also a bit creepy seeing all the skeletons and their expressions frozen in time, one can feel the agony those people must have felt. Here are my best pics from Herculaneum

Why the glum face.? The skeletons?.

I didn't feel saddened by that side of things for some reason just awed that they had survived so long. I think the fact it happened 2000 years ago may have had something to do with it. I thought both there and Pompei were fantastic although very different as you say. Herculaneum was covered in volcanic Ash which seemed to have preserved everything
