Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

My issue is that it is being funded by money from a country that treats women appallingly, where being gay is punishable by death, who executed 81 people on one day and who have waged a bombing campaign against Yemen, and murdered and dismembered a journalist in one of their embassies.. Their human rights record is dreadful. They are trying to gain respectability through sport and it is just plain wrong. I'm sad that nobody is saying this is wrong, they all have ££ signs in their eyes and can't see past the money. That goes for F1, boxing all of them - and Newcastle United. I would genuinely give up on Everton if they did what Newcastle did. I don't think it's the same as the Packer stuff in cricket - that was one individual putting up the money, not a tyrannical regime.
Give us a break Anj. I did call them a rogue state?

I remember reading an article in the Echo years ago about that stonemason.
You're probably thinking of Fred Bower.
I've read and can highly recommend his autobiography 'The Rolling Stonemason'

Bower, Fred (1871-1942), born in Boston, MA, of an English family which moved to Liverpool three years later, a stonemason descended from a long line of Dorset stonemasons, working in Britain and America, a ‘tramping’ artisan, a socialist involved in labour politics, and a poet; published Rolling Stonemason. An Autobiography (London: Jonathan Cape, 1936). This has been re-printed by Merlin Press, London, in 2015, edited by Ron Noon and Sam Davies, thanks to the efforts of Noon, a historian who uncovered the story of Bower cutting the first stone on the site of Liverpool Cathedral, and in June 1904 secretly burying a tin time capsule in its foundations containing socialist messages and literature. Though he had ‘practised the stonemason’s craft on three continents’, Bower is buried at St Peter’s Church in Haswall, Merseyside. His poem ‘The Pirate of Park West’ is extracted in Coles’ Wirral anthology. The reprint of his autobiography is a worthwhile and welcome addition to the recovery of labouring-class lifewriting, and working-class and socialist history. The chapters on the Liverpool Cathedral time capsule (Chapter IX) and on Liverpool’s ‘Bloody Sunday’ (XV) are especially interesting

Absolutely gorgeous, how meaningful it must be to go to a place where your ancestors have had meaningful ceremonies.
It is and I’m lucky to be able to visit many of those places. My Mum’s family haven’t moved very far from where they originated in Northamptonshire, about 25 miles from where I live, which probably explains why I’m no traveller lol. Our daughter was married in our local parish church and became the fifth generation of our family to do so.

Morning all, lovely day here again today. My friend had a “significant” birthday yesterday and is having an open house today so we are off to help her celebrate or commiserate (not sure which lol) this afternoon. No chance of me rolling home from hers as I have done in the past as I gave up the falling down juice a few years ago and regular readers will recall I tripped over last year so I don’t need any help in that direction ?. Have a great day, everyone ?

This is not the one I mentioned but a great story anyway.

Afternoon all. Sweaty Saturday lived up to its billing. Half an hour of circuit training. Running, rowing, exercise bike, treadmill to name but a few. All in 45 second bursts. I haven't run anywhere for about 35 years so that was shock! Discovered I can't do sit ups but can do an excellent impression of an upside down turtle. Came home, did some overtime and now going to have a very chilled afternoon. It may involve prosecco. I feel I've earned it.

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend x

You did fantastic Anj. Let's face it. Circuit training is not for people our age.

When I was still playing amateur football in my 20s, we used to do circuit training 1 week in 4, and I used to dread it, with good reason. Hats off to you.
