2025/26 Merlin Röhl

I'm not writing him on or off.
I'm just saying he perfectly sums up our fanbase.

He's gone from "The second Coming", to the "First going" in the space of a few months..

He hasn't though. The vast majority of people are simply holding judgment because he's only played a handful of games

Those that says he's crap/amazing after just a few minutes are a bit weird and probably don't really watch any football other than highlights

Alot of what I've read on here, beyond the pages of puns, Were overhyped up opinions on a player we had seen about 20mins of, and how he should be starting, even to point of moving Garner to Rb just to fit him in.

Than he gets injured and he's a crock, that we should have never touched with his injury record.

Now he's getting on the pitch, we've got the lawyers out trying to find a hole in this obligation clause..

So yeah, this has done the full circle, and how many minutes has he actually being on the field.

Ofcourse there are people holding judgement, that should be the way.
But thats not how ive seen it, and the same thing happens with half the players..

….i’ve said from the outset, he looks better without the ball than with it. The bonus could be his versatility, helping Moyes to manage games from the bench in various positions and even be employed as a man-marker.

I don’t believe he carries the same quality as Harrison Armstrong who might’ve overtaken him in the pecking order but we’ll need numbers and he could be an ok squad acquisition.

He is so far of the pace he struggled to get on the ball. Was jogging around half heatedly before he was taken off.
Strange take.

….i mean he’s got an engine on him, need to look at that stats site but you certainly can’t rely on him to keep possession or even pick a pass. Despite his part in their goal, he also looks like he can be an aerial threat.

Our world renowned footy talent spotter extraordinaire @Joey66 has declared he`s only fit for the glue factory.

Based on that, my mind is made up.

Can we do what Chelsea did with Sancho and pay to not sign him.
I think that this is what will end up happening. There is no way we are signing him on a perm unless he picks up his game in the coming months which is unlikely as we will have players back in those midfield positions soon and he will end up being the last option on the bench if even on the bench.

Very few Germans have hit the ground running in the PL. He needs a pre season and a settled period before i fully judge him.

This fella hit the ground running from the get-go. He was fantastic at hitting the ground, it has to be said.

But seriously, you make a good point. I'm living here in Berlin and take a particular interest in German football - which I've watched for over 40 years. I would suggest that the reason so few German players hit the ground running in England in recent times is related to the fact that Germany is really not producing the same level of player that it traditionally has. Klinsmann, for example, was one of the best strikers in the world (yet would struggle to get into an all-time German top five) - and played in a national team that regularly graced World Cup and European Championship finals. You couldn't see the current German generation making ANY final. Wirtz is a very good technical player, but he lacks something intangible that previous generations had in abundance. I put it down to identity or the Guardiola effect. His time at Bayern was massively influential here - coming as it did during a drought for the national team. German football has tried to be an ersatz Spain since - with predictably diminishing returns.

The last excellent generation - Löw's 2014 crop - were already maturing by the time Pep's influence was felt directly (and had swept the board in Europe under Heynckes) - but there's been nothing since. Kimmich - a by-word for national team failure here in Germany - is about the best of them. Röhl played in the German national team at underage level. We should be patient, I agree. We could still make a decent player out of him. But I think his presence at underage level tells you that standards are really not all that high here in Germany at the moment...as this summer is very likely to underline.
