Mentality

We played some good football in his last season and were hard to beat during most of his tenure.
‘Hard to beat’ is negative! that’s the mentality problem right there, why don’t we have a we will beat you one way or another mentality?? As long as we’re not flirting with relegation or getting dragged into it then the board won’t react.

He was in the job 11yrs, surely to last that long, he would have had to have played some good football and had some good seasons. I’m not knocking moyes, I was making a point about moyes being a negative manager, for a large part of his 11yrs. And especially away from home

A load of old tosh? Behave.

Just looking for a point to stick one on the manager? It's not needed...

Iwobi, DCL and Pickford were all screaming to get on with the game - rightly so.

There was me thinking it was a forum in which I could express my opinion. Or was that not modding?

It is needed to point out that for some people they will find any excuse to blame or ridicule the manager. And you're right, it really is not needed.

Eh?

I've not said you're not entitled to your opinion have I? I'm refuting your view that my opinion is agenda driven and "a load of old toss".

A small point, some would say trivial and pedantic. They could be right...

But 97th minute equaliser at home, against 10 men.

5 minutes left on the clock.

Instead of getting on with the game going for that winner as the top teams no doubt would, our players go an celebrate with the crowd.

Instinct should be to get the ball out the net and get that winner, not this;

Absolutely spot on this.

It’s a valid point. We accept mediocrity. 7th is our target every season. “Transition season blues” for us are the norm. Chelsea have a transfer ban, an inexperienced coach and a squad of younguns and they are outperforming expectations. Winning cultures are important. We don’t win because we don’t have one.

I agree with both of you that Moyes was on the whole a negative manager, the point I was making was that he was forced into being "negative" due to the chronic lack of funds available to him. I think there were also a couple of summers we didn't buy ANY players. We had Fellaini and Cahill playing up front as we couldn't afford a decent CF, although the Yak did hit 20 one season? I think.

Look at the funds that have been made available to managers post Moyes and where are we really?

Right now, today, I would take being hard to beat.

Is this the moyes who set up for 0-0 in virtually every away game . Let’s not try and make out Moyes was this positive attacking manager

Setting up for a 0-0 every away game? That's not how I remember Moyes time at Everton. But whatever his style was it was a lot more exciting than the dross that we have seen from Silva, and resulted in Everton being pulled out of the doldrums and qualifying for Europe on a regular basis.

People can try and knock Moyes if it makes them feel better, but he's the best Everton manager of the 21st century at the end of the day.

And I can remember some horrendous performances under Moyes. the constantly shutting up shop. When we went one up, even at half time.

Its interesting that silva hasn’t won after conceding first. Though VAR definitely cost us last week. But under Moyes we also very rarely won if we went one down. The only game I can remember away from home was at West Ham when we scored 3 late goals, I think Saha got 2. But I can’t remember many more, I’m sure there are more, but You can probably count on one hand how many times it happened away from home in 11yrs.

They say in every sport, under pressure your default mechanism kicks in. And it’s no surprise that we never win at Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea. And in big pressure games we failed. And as for being our best manger in the 21st century. Look at the competition Walter Smith, big Sam, Martinez. And of course silva. What a list.

We also finished 17th one season. Was it back to back 4-0 defeats around Christmas, by them monster clubs Bolton and West Brom.
Moyes did a good job under the circumstances. But wasn’t a great manager and since leaving Everton that’s been proved.

Its something Bobbie Martinez was right about. Unfortunately he couldn't situate positively taking the game to opponents into the other pre-requisite of a winning team: a bloody minded unwillingness to lose a hard won lead. Two sides of the same coin imho.

There was a lot more fight from Moyes' teams, and that's what we are lacking now, whether it be defensive fight or attacking fight. We need both. Demented 'positivity' is what Martinez provided us and it took us backwards. Silva just provides dross, and I can't stand the notion that passing the ball from side to side and getting nowhere is somehow superior to a good long ball up the field.

Spot on.

A winning team grabs that ball and runs back to the centre circle to et he game started to push for a winner.

This is a team of losers and the current run proves that.

We have Leicester in the league and league cup, the rs, Chelsea, Man United, and Arsenal all to play in December. Then we have Man City on new years day.I honestly don't think Silva, will make it past December.

In fairness Moyes post Everton is irrelevant. It still doesn't change the fact, that he was Evertons best manager since Joe Royle, and with peanuts to spend, built a team, that was a top class striker away from really challenging.Everton in the post Moyes era, are a shambles, and we were a shambles before he arrived as manager as well.Of course he had his flaws alright, such as a really poor record in the big games, but overall he left Everton in a better state and improved state, from what he inherited. Can the same be said about, all of his successors since?
