Is that really a common concern for Americans? They hold firearms to protect themselves from assailants, not the Armed Forces. That's not what the 2nd Amendment was intended for.

Quite common. Making laws to restrict access, etc just reinforces the paranoia.

It depends on how you choose to interpret the 2nd amendment and the context of the times in which it was written. The "government" started trying to take away our guns in the lead up to the revolutionary war. Many read the 2nd amendment in that context.

I think it's nuts. Unless a good portion of the military services are on the civilians side, bit of a lost cause in this day and age.

They also own drones.

The amount of things that make me fume I'd have prob blasted somebody by now if we had gun laws like America and we were all strapped up, infact England would be one massive civil war we'd all just be shooting each other over fck all. Friday and sat nights would be nuts.

its an excuse for stopping reform and a pretty pathetic one

Most gun murders are comitted by people using illegally held guns.
Several of these "spree" murders seem to be done with legally acquired weapons

Criminal histories and documented mental health problems did not prevent at least eight of the gunmen in 14 recent mass shootings from obtaining their weapons, after federal background checks led to approval of the purchases of the guns used.
