Amazing how some people will find a sexism/feminism angle to almost every story.

I agree with the gist of the post, but whilst many/all of the high profile American shootings are indeed male, I've never seen it as a male/female issue. It's a gun issue, that's it.

Equally I've never seen Abortion rights as a male/female issue though it does tend to disproportionately effect more females than men. Its a right to kill thing.
The post merely points out the massive inconsistency there is in American life between those who demand the ability to potentially kill others (what else are guns for) because it's some how their right, and those who demand others can't have that option when there can actually be good reasons behind it.

Horribly sad

An 11-year-old boy in the US state of Tennessee has been held on suspicion of shooting dead an eight-year-old neighbour in a row over a puppy.

The boy has been charged with first-degree murder as a juvenile.

According to police, he shot the girl on Saturday evening with his father's shotgun after she refused to let him see her puppy.

The girl has been identified as McKayla Dyer. Her mother Latasha said that the two children went to the same school.

"He was making fun of her, calling her names, just being mean to her. He quit for a while and then all of a sudden yesterday he shot her," Ms Dyer told WATE-TV.

Neighbour Chastity Arwood told WBIR News that she heard the shot ring out and saw McKayla lying on the grass.

"Trying to comfort her mama and her aunt and her grandma and her grandpa and her sister and her brother was the hardest thing I ever had to do," Ms Arwood said.

The boy is scheduled to appear in court again on 28 October.

The Gun Violence Archive, a not-for-profit organisation that compiles data on gun violence in the US, says 559 children aged 11 or under have been killed or injured in the United States in gun violence so far this year.

But it's nothing to do with guns being held legally or something.

How many more people have to die before something is done about this ?

Many more it would seem, sadly.

I don't even know what to say. I have no idea what the hell is going on but it is sad and very embarrassing. Is New Zealand still looking for pilots?

Going through my news updates is depressing. It's sad how desensitized we've become to bad news. There's not one positive story in my feed...

A Manhattan human resources manager is suing her 12-year-old nephew for leaping into her arms when he welcomed her to his eighth birthday party. The aunt, Jennifer Connell, claims her nephew acted unreasonably when his exuberant greeting caused her to fall and break her wrist in 2011, the Westport News reported from the courthouse on Monday.

She is seeking $127,000 in damages from the boy, whose mother died last year. Westport News also reported that the 12-year-old appeared confused as he sat in the courtroom with his father. Connell reportedly testified that she loves her nephew, whom she described as always being “very loving, sensitive” toward her.

He had been riding his first two-wheeled bicycle – which was bright red, according to testimony – around his home. When Connell arrived, he dropped it. “I remember him shouting, ‘Auntie Jen, I love you!’ and there he was flying at me,” Connell reportedly testified.

Of the damage done, Connell testified that she did not complain at the time, but she said her life had been “very difficult” since the injury because of “how crowded it is in Manhattan”. “I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate,” she reportedly said.

Judge Judy would have none of that.

Get her on judge Rinder, he'll make mincemeat of her with his rapier wit and camp expressions.

Seriously though, you yanks are mental. Canned chickens and now this?
