I think I chuffing might you know!
Reading O’Keefe’s intro, it seems so.
“The first conversation I had about joining The Athletic started with one of its executives telling me Everton is a club that deserves more from journalism. More in-depth coverage, more story-telling, more attention, more love.”

"Thanks! Look forward to reading the first piece!...
Okay, who's next, Carlisle's beat writer? Send him in.
You know, I've always said Carlisle is a club that deserves more from journalism. More in-depth coverage, more story-telling, more attention, more love.”
I can see the skepticism but I'm deffo sure these lads will have looked at fans on here, Twitter, elsewhere and recognized that we're not getting a good deal in the media - despite our overall desire for good/regular Everton coverage.
I'm just joking. It will be nice to read quality, in depth stuff from a position of knowledge about lots of clubs we don't see a lot about in the mainstream press, I think. Especially from places like Bolton and Bury, if there's a guy on the beat there who has some inside knowledge and can share it, that would be super interesting.

I haven't looked for Football League stuff but they took Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday reporters so I guess its there
There's a Celtic and a Rangers writer too
They'll probably add more writers for more clubs in time eventually I guess
Didn't even think they'd bother with the SPL. That's nice.
Pretty sure they're going to have a bigger presence than the Bury Times to be honest. The thing is, how much is their inside knowledge dependent upon their position? It's one thing being having sources when you're at a publication with a global brand, huge readership and a lot to offer your bloke in return for giving up the goods, but when you're at an unknown quality those things don't exist. Your source isn't really interested in how well you write, just so long as you don't screw them over and get the exposure they want by dishing up to a journo.
The people at this new publication may still have the trustworthiness, but if one man and his dog read each article, then I reckon many of their sources will dry up sharpish.
