The team earnt the 72 points.
Of course but the defence was the 3rd best. The attack certainly wasn't.

I loved Barry last season but towards the end you could see his legs going. This season it has been like playing with 10 men.

In a way I have to wonder if it is just a couple of signings and ditching his favourite but he's had the whole season and still hasn't fixed the problem. That's unforgivable because it's plainly obvious Barry can only play if we park the bus. Once the game opens up it just passes him by.

League Performance. Lowest points tally in PL history.
FA Cup. Out first round.
League Cup. Out first round, stuffed 3-0.

Europa was his saving grace this season. That performance, that naivety, has now put an extra black mark against him.

He currently has a job for two reasons.

1. Last season.
2. Kenwright being a clown and giving him a 5 year contract/mural on the back of one decent season.

Let's look at it another way:

The first season was electric, no question we advanced as a club. This season has been nightmarishly poor in the PL but we have torn up some very decent teams in Europe.

Can that even be dreamt of as a situation you sack a relatively new manager under?

Not for me, not in a million years. Kenwright is well within his rights to stand by Martinez and give him next season.

This mood here tonight is all down to some perceived embarrassment in front of a national audience...the fact is we reached further than any team in Europe.

There we go. That's the ultimate post in the thread.

And oh my God that mural...

If Martinez gets sacked which i very much doubt it put Joe Royle in Temp charge till end of the season and then address the manager situation in the summer when we have more time. The thing that worries me is if we lose Mirallas, Coleman and even Lukaku would you trust Martinez to bring in top players.

Look at the league table.

Look at the subs tonight and throughout the season.

Look at Alcaraz actually completing the game tonight.

Look at the absolutely awful run of results which was utterly unimaginable in August.

Then come back and tell me exactly why Martinez shouldn't be sacked. Because you aren't even giving a counter-argument anymore - you're just laughing it off.

The good will from last season is completely gone, whereas you're hanging your hat on Kenwright not having the guts to sack him because you want to be right on the internet.

But you have to agree there is something there. Some seeds of building something.

Last season was the benchmark that went beyond Moyes in terms of style and points total.

His signings by and large have been a massive success. Besic, McCarthy, Lukaku, Barry.

He broke Barkley and Stones into the team and gave them responsibility. He's also gave Garbutt and Browning game time.

Hes got young gifted players as a spine of his team that need time.

We won home and away against one of the top sides in Europe against Wolfsburg.

He took risks and brought in named players to try and help the team like Eto'o and Lennon, rather than play it safe.

When we've been accused of not being able to defend, we've put defensive displays in.

When we've been accused of not changing tactics, we have.

Yes, I totally agree with people wanting him out. But there is something there.

Now, we either stick or twist. I don't want is being a club who rotate a manager every year personally.

Saw the interview earlier. Here are the highlights honestly transcribed

As it happens the game goes into that mood

I was please we got the away goal

And then the second half we were lookin for the away goal again

We were trying to find a way to get the goal

They had their day today

Its a moment to be disappointed

But we had an incredible experience

Phenomenal memories

Now we are going to get more desire to fulfil the potential

We have a squad that is capable of competing in any competition
He might have tried to be positive but he looked as gutted as we are.
